MoIT leader attends Expanded G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting and side events
The meeting was chaired by Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani. The G7 group comprises Italy, Canada, France, Germany, Japan, the UK, and the US. The main objective of the Expanded G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting is to address tensions and conflicts threatening global trade and promote sustainable and comprehensive growth.
In addition to the Ministers from G7 member countries, the Expanded G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting also saw participation of Trade Ministers and government officials from India, New Zealand, Argentina, Brazil, the Republic of Korea, and Vietnam, as well as representatives from the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

This marks the first time the G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting has invited Vietnam's Minister of Industry and Trade to participate. This isn't merely a diplomatic gesture, it underscores Italy and the G7 countries' genuine recognition of Vietnam's role in advancing global trade development. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Antonio Tajani, host of this year's meeting, also emphasized Vietnam as a shining example and a successful model of economic growth through international economic integration achievements, which have helped Vietnam boost trade, attract investment, and successfully engage in the globalization process as well as reshaping regional and international supply chains.
In his opening speech at the Expanded G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting, when introducing the invited countries, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani highlighted Vietnam as a successful model of economic growth. He emphasized that Vietnam has valuable experiences in developing the economy through diversifying supply chains.
At the meeting, the Director-General of the WTO also emphasized that Vietnam, along with several other developing countries, exemplifies the success of international integration and serves as a prominent example of effectively implementing supply chain diversification.
The Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry also mentioned bilateral and multilateral cooperation frameworks with Vietnam as well as with other G7 members. Japan is committed to providing support for some developing countries and is also assisting Vietnam in activities related to carbon emission reduction.
At the meeting, Vietnamese Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien delivered a speech lasting about 10 minutes, focusing on cooperation priorities with the expanded G7 member countries in various aspects, such as diversifying supply chains, technological innovation, and digital transformation of supply chains.
Alongside the G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien and the members of the Vietnamese delegation held bilateral meetings with partner entities to promote economic and trade cooperation with countries in the European region.

Besides attending the Expanded G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien will preside over the European Trade Counselors' Meeting for Europe in Italy. The meeting will take place over two days, July 18 and 19, aiming to promote economic and trade activities, foreign market operations, and trade promotion, contributing to increasing Vietnam's export of goods to European and global markets. Additionally, the meeting will strengthen the work of connecting, coordinating, and supporting businesses in promoting export activities.
In Italy, besides attending the Expanded G7 Trade Ministers' Meeting, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien will also preside over a meeting of Vietnamese trade counselors in the European region. The meeting will take place over two days, July 18 and 19, aiming to promote economic and trade activities, foreign market operations, and trade promotion, contributing to increasing Vietnam's export of goods to European and global markets. The meeting will strengthen the work of connecting, coordinating, and supporting businesses in promoting export activities.
The trade counselors’ meeting will focus on assessing the current status and policy trends in economics and trade in the European region and their impacts on Vietnam, and the issues arising in the near future. The meeting will also involve discussions to provide recommendations on strategies and measures for market development in the European region for the 2024-2025 period and the following years.
In particular, it will focus on enhancing market research efforts, developing new frameworks for economic, trade, and industrial cooperation to meet the needs of Vietnam's economy in the new era, removing market barriers, and strengthening trade promotion to support businesses.
Accompanying Minister Nguyen Hong Dien at the Regional Trade Counselors' Meeting for Europe in Italy are representatives from the Government Office and other relevant units.
According to the scheduled agenda, the Trade Counselors' Meeting will include two main sessions: a working session between units within the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnamese Trade Offices in European countries, and the official session. During the working session between units within the Ministry of Industry and Trade and Vietnamese Trade Offices in European countries, delegates will hear reports summarizing the work of the Trade Offices and the implementation of market development tasks for the 2022-2024 period, as well as orientations for 2024-2025 and future directions. The session will also include discussions on market development, trade promotion, boosting exports and imports, and energy cooperation, among other topics.During the official session, delegates will focus on identifying challenges and opportunities in the European market; market research efforts, market information development, and discussions on solutions to diversify markets and promote trade. They will also discuss building sustainable supply chains, and exchange solutions to strengthen cooperation in industry, energy, and investment with European countries. Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien will deliver the opening and concluding remarks at the sessions within the framework of the meeting. |
