Vietnam’s pangasius exports reach US$1.8 billion in 11 months

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), China and Hong Kong (China) remain the largest markets for Vietnamese pangasius exports. In November 2024, exports to this region reached US$50 million, up 27 percent compared to the same period last year. The total exports to China alone for the first 11 months of this year rose by 1 percent year on year, totaling more than US$500.

In November 2024, pangasius exports to the US increased by 14 percent compared with November 2023, reaching over US$26 million. By the end of November this year, the total pangasius export value to this market had exceeded US$317 million, up 26 percent year on year.

Pangasius exports to the CPTPP market reached nearly US$24 million in November 2024, up 5 percent over the same period last year. In the first 11 months of the year, pangasius export revenue to the bloc reached US$248 million, a 10 percent year-on-year increase. In particular, Mexico continued to be the largest importer of Vietnamese pangasius in this bloc. In November alone, customers in this country consumed nearly US$6 million of pangasius, down 25 percent year on year. Although the export value decreased in November, the export value of pangasius to Mexico in 11 months of 2024 still recorded a five percent increase to reach US$69 million.

The EU remains Vietnam’s 4th largest market for pangasius exports. The export value of pangasius to this market in the first 11 months of this year reached nearly US$161 million, a 3 percent increase compared to the same period last year. In November alone, the EU consumed nearly US$17 million, up 43 percent compared to the same period in 2023. The Netherlands was still the largest importer of Vietnamese pangasius in this bloc during the 11-month period of 2024 with more than US$43 million, up seven percent year on year.

In addition, Vietnamese pangasius exports to some other markets also recorded positive growth in November 2024, including Thailand up 29 percent, UK up 20 percent, Colombia up 2 percent.

Vietnam’s pangasius exports are on track to reach the US$2 billion revenue target as forecast at the beginning of the year, which has proved the attractiveness, competitiveness and potential of the sector. However, pangasius production and export activities still face many challenges, especially strong competition with other white-meat fish species. Vietnamese enterprises are supposed to consider new and proactive directions to maintain and develop the market share of the Vietnamese pangasius sector in the international market.
