Accordingly, the committee has approved the implementation of a multi-modal electronic ticketing system across all 128 subsidized bus routes in the city.

Instead of using paper tickets (monthly tickets) or paying with cash (single-ride tickets), passengers can now switch to using smart cards with embedded chips to access subsidized bus routes in the city.

The cashless payment method also allows passengers to use virtual cards by installing an app. on their smartphones and scan QR codes when boarding the bus, enabling travel without the need for a physical card or ticket.

The electronic ticket card is one of the key solutions aimed at developing a smart city, bringing numerous benefits to both the city and public transport passengers.

The multi-modal integrated electronic ticketing system not only enables fast and convenient ticket sales and check, but also meets the requirements for network management and operation. It allows for the creation of a flexible ticketing mechanism to attract more people to use public transport services, contributing to building a modern public transport system, and helping reduce traffic congestion and environmental pollution.

Earlier, starting from November 28, 2023, the Hanoi Traffic Management and Operation Center under the municipal Department of Transport began piloting the multi-modal integrated cashless electronic ticketing system on 25 bus routes.

After the pilot period with positive feedback from many passengers regarding the system’s convenience and alignment with current technological trends, the Hanoi People’s Committee has approved the expansion of this system to all state-subsidized bus routes./.
