Throughout 28 years of membership, the economic-trade ties between Vietnam and ASEAN members have grown tremendously, both in scope and depth. In 2022, Vietnam-ASEAN trade reached a record high, exceeding 80 billion USD, compared with 6 billion USD in 1996 when it first joined the ASEAN Free Trade Area (AFTA).

According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vietnam earned over 3.25 billion USD from exporting fruit and vegetables in the first seven months of the year, representing a year-on-year increase of a significant 68.8%.

Vietnam’s durian exports totaled about 850 million USD in the first half of 2023, or double the figure in 2022, and are expected to reach 1.2-1.5 billion USD for the year as a whole.

Under the National Master Plan for the 2021-2030 period with a vision to 2050, Vietnam is set to become a developing nation with modern industry, high average incomes, and economic growth by 2030, based on science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation.

Under the Decision approving the master plan for the development of the national airport network, Vietnam will establish 30 domestic and international airports in the 2021-2030 period and the figure will be 33 by 2050.

Following the recovery momentum of 2022, in the first half of 2023, Vietnam's tourism industry recorded optimistic signals, as it welcomed nearly 5.6 million international visitors, reaching 70% of the whole year’s plan. Many markets have recovered beyond 2019 levels. Domestic tourists reached 64 million. Total revenue from tourists reached 343 trillion VND.

Visitors to Hanoi totalled 12.33 million in the first half of this year, a 42% increase compared to the same period last year. International tourists accounted for 2.03 million, a seven-fold rise against the same period last year.

Vietnam and Switzerland have enjoyed thriving cooperation since they established ambassadorial-level diplomatic relations on October 11, 1971.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh is in Beijing for an official visit to China and attendance at the 14th Annual Meeting of the New Champions of the World Economic Forum (WEF). Since the relationship was set up in 1989, cooperation between Vietnam and the WEF has become more substantive, focusing on important fields like macro policy consulting, plastic waste reduction, and sustainable agriculture.

Vietnam and China have enjoyed sound cooperation since they established diplomatic relations on January 18, 1950.
