Five businesses fined over VND2 billion for violating competition laws

(VEN) - Based on the investigation of competition law violations in 2024, the National Competition Commission (NCC) has decided to impose fines totaling over VND2 billion on five businesses.

The NCC has recently issued decisions addressing competition law violations by three businesses operating in the electronics sector.

Specifically, Decision 341/QD-CT on administrative sanctions in the field of competition was issued against Sharp Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd. with the business registration number 0308159258. The company is located at T5-B03.07 and T5-B03.09, 3rd Floor, Masteri Thao Dien, 159 Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Thao Dien Ward, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, and its website is https://vn.sharp. The company was fined VND200 million for providing misleading information about its AIOT FP-J80EV-H air purifier product to attract customers away from other businesses, violating Point a, Clause 5, Article 45 of the Competition Law.

Sharp Electronics Vietnam Co., Ltd. is required to publicly correct the misleading information provided to customers regarding the AIOT FP-J80EV-H air purifier on its official website at https://vn.sharp.

Decision 342/QD-CT was issued, imposing administrative sanctions in the field of competition against Aqua Vietnam Electronics Co., Ltd. with the business registration number 3600257517, located at No. 8, Street 17A, Bien Hoa 2 Industrial Zone, An Binh Ward, Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai Province, and its website is https://www.aquavietnam.com.vn. The company was fined VND200 million for providing misleading information about its Side by Side refrigerator (AQR-S682XA) and Inverter air conditioner (AQA-KCRV10WNZA) products to attract customers away from other businesses. This action violated Point a, Clause 5, Article 45 of the Competition Law.

Aqua Vietnam Electronics Co., Ltd. is also required to publicly correct the misleading information provided to customers regarding the Side by Side refrigerator (AQR-S682XA) and the Inverter air conditioner (AQA-KCRV10WNZA) on its official website at https://www.aquavietnam.com.vn.

Similarly, Cao Dai Tin Trading Co., Ltd. was fined VND200 million under Decision 340/QD-CT for providing misleading information about its Airdog X8 air purifier product to attract customers away from other businesses. This action violated Point a, Clause 5, Article 45 of the Competition Law.

Cao Dai Tin Trading Co., Ltd. with the business registration number 0314662156 is located at No. 142, Thanh Xuan 22 Street, Quarter 5, Thanh Xuan Ward, District 12, Ho Chi Minh City. The company’s website is https://airdog.vn.

Cao Dai Tin Trading Co., Ltd. is also required to publicly correct the misleading information provided to customers regarding the Airdog X8 air purifier on its official website at https://airdog.vn.

The NCC reported that in 2024, it prioritized investigating and addressing competition-related cases. The NCC reviewed 24 cases involving suspected violations of competition laws, including 10 cases of anti-competitive practices, 11 cases of unfair competition, and 3 cases of economic concentration practices. Additionally, the NCC received and appraised one application for exemption from a prohibited anti-competitive agreement among aviation businesses. Following investigations into these cases, the NCC decided to impose sanctions on five businesses, collecting over VND2 billion in penalties for the state budget.

Alongside this, the NCC also proactively collected and verified information on potential violations of competition laws across various sectors, including commodity trading platforms, motorcycle manufacturing and trading, steel production, e-commerce platforms, children’s playgrounds, and sales applications in the dairy industry, among others.
