Dak Lak: Enhancing the value of outstanding rural industrial products

Post-selection support has helped Dak Lak’s rural industrial products gain recognition, build brands, and increase market value.

Concrete results from specific enterprises

The selection of outstanding rural industrial products is a key component of Dak Lak’s industrial promotion efforts. Through this process, products with high quality, usability, aesthetic appeal, and potential for production expansion have been identified and supported, promoting the industrialization and modernization of rural areas.

To date, Dak Lak has successfully organized multiple selection rounds every two years. The results are notable, with 61 products recognized at the provincial level, 31 at the regional level, and 10 at the national level.

More importantly, the effectiveness of the selection process is not only reflected in these figures but is most clearly seen in the development of the products and the revenue and profits of the enterprises producing outstanding rural industrial products.

A typical example is Nam Truong Son Cacao Company Limited, which received machinery support from industrial promotion funds to invest in a cocoa production line. As a result, the company’s products have not only been certified as nationally outstanding rural industrial products but have also gradually penetrated demanding markets such as Japan and Canada. This achievement reflects not only technological advancement but also serves as a vivid demonstration that Dak Lak’s agricultural products can compete within the global value chain.

Another notable case is Damaca Nguyen Phuong Company, which produces macadamia nuts using modern, environmentally friendly methods. Supported by machinery through the industrial promotion program, the Damaca Nguyen Phuong macadamia brand has conquered the domestic market and exports to countries including South Korea, Taiwan, and France. With a closed production process complying with food safety standards, the company’s macadamia products have not only been certified as nationally outstanding rural industrial products but also contributed to establishing Vietnam’s green agricultural brand.

These examples demonstrate that the selection process for outstanding rural industrial products has opened new development opportunities for rural industrial establishments. It also serves as proof of quality and acts as a "passport" for enterprises to confidently invest, innovate technology, and expand production.

Long-term direction for the selection process

Despite positive achievements, the selection of outstanding rural industrial products in Dak Lak still faces several challenges, according to representatives from the Department of Industry and Trade. First, communication efforts remain weak, causing many potential products to be unknown or not participate. The industrial promotion network has not been closely connected to the commune level and lacks a team of local collaborators. The application of information technology for product traceability and information management is still limited.

The financial capacity of most rural industrial establishments in remote areas remains weak, while industrial promotion funds mainly serve as seed capital and have not mobilized other social resources. Some projects have been delayed due to plan changes and lack of coordination among implementing units.

Additionally, green and environmentally friendly products, which are a global consumption trend, have not been prioritized for support, despite being a strategic direction to increase added value and promote sustainable development.

Furthermore, according to the Department of Industry and Trade, improving the quality of the outstanding rural industrial product selection must align with the overall goals of developing a green and circular economy. The province should focus on groups of products with high added value, low emissions, use of renewable materials or deep processing, export potential, and sustainable job creation.

To achieve this, it is necessary to expand communication efforts, apply digital technology in management and selection, and standardize evaluation criteria in line with global green consumption trends. Products awarded the title of outstanding rural industrial products need support in brand strategy development, packaging design, traceability, and access to international markets through specialized e-commerce channels.

At the same time, clear responsibilities must be assigned to industrial promotion officers from the provincial to the commune level, with proper training plans to enhance advisory capacity, market connection, and monitoring of project effectiveness after implementation.

According to data from the Department of Industry and Trade of Dak Lak, in addition to the selection of outstanding rural industrial products, the province has implemented about 242 industrial promotion projects from 2012 to 2024, with a total budget of approximately 107.5 billion VND. Of this, the national industrial promotion program contributed 5.586 billion VND, the local program provided 21.895 billion VND, and the counterpart funds from rural industrial production establishments accounted for 80.024 billion VND.

Specifically, the support included two vocational training projects for 80 workers; 45 projects for technical and professional capacity training and clean production application in industry with over 2,309 participants; 195 projects supporting the application of advanced machinery, scientific and technical advances in production; and assistance for filing and registering trademarks for rural industrial products at 15 rural industrial establishments.
