Tourism model favored by visitors
According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT), Euronews – a European news television network headquartered in Lyon, France – has released its 2025 tourism trend report themed “Unique discovery, better experience.” The report states that despite rising living costs and inflation pressures, travel remains a top priority for people worldwide.
Euronews highlights that due to shifting traveler demands, the global tourism industry will pivot towards models that prioritize the environment, community engagement, technological integration, and enhanced visitor experiences. In 2025, travelers will no longer be passive consumers, but actively contribute to shaping the destinations they visit through participation in conservation projects, community programs, and cultural exchange activities.
This trend report once again underscores that as public awareness of environmental issues grows, responsible tourism is becoming increasingly popular among travelers. They tend to seek nature-based destinations and participate in efforts to preserve and restore local landscapes.
Thus, green and responsible tourism will be a top priority and choice for travelers, while also opening new opportunities for Vietnam’s tourism sector. Vietnam possesses great potential for developing green tourism thanks to its rich and diverse natural resources, stunning landscapes, and historical sites.
Moreover, amid rapid economic development, an imbalance between nature and modernization trends has emerged. As a result, Vietnam’s tourism industry has recognized that environmentally- and socially-responsible tourism is not only a trend, but also a strategic development direction essential for sustainable growth.

Efforts to protect ecosystems
Green tourism operates in a way that minimizes environmental impact, contributes positively to biodiversity conservation, promotes the use of renewable energy, and enhances both natural and cultural heritage. It also focuses on developing eco-friendly tourism products. Experts consider the development of green tourism spaces a strategic and highly advantageous direction for Vietnam’s tourism industry. However, Pham Hai Quynh, Director of the Asian Tourism Development Institute (AIT), acknowledges that while this trend presents numerous opportunities, it also brings significant challenges for Vietnam’s tourism sector.
To promote green tourism, Pham Hai Quynh suggests several solutions for Vietnam to attract more international tourists in the near future. These include focusing on developing sustainable tourism types, such as eco-tourism and community-based tourism, which appeal to visitors interested in environmental conservation. Additionally, implementing measures to protect ecosystems and limiting the exploitation of natural resources are crucial. Establishing nature reserves and encouraging tourists to participate in environmental conservation activities are also essential steps.
Moreover, green tourism is not just about visiting nature-based destinations or encouraging tourists to protect the environment and preserve the original beauty of nature. It also involves safeguarding and promoting community values and cultural identities. According to Quynh, today’s travelers seek richer experiences, from cuisine to cultural activities, which in turn drives the diverse growth of the tourism industry.
To maintain this growth momentum, investment in infrastructure, services, and destination marketing is necessary, along with a strong emphasis on sustainable development to protect the environment and local cultural values. Supporting local communities in developing sustainable tourism through cultural, culinary, and artistic tourism products is essential. At the same time, providing opportunities for tourists to engage with local culture and participate in heritage conservation activities will enhance their travel experiences. Encouraging tourists to take part in environmental protection efforts throughout their journey is also a key priority.
With the rapid advancement of information technology, destinations should enhance their use of digital media channels to promote green destinations and sustainable tourism activities. Developing communications campaigns to raise awareness of the benefits of green tourism for both communities and travelers is essential. “Additionally, it is important to establish partnerships with international organizations to share experiences and resources for green tourism development. Hosting events and festivals dedicated to green tourism can also be an effective way to attract visitors,” Quynh suggested./.
To develop green tourism, destinations are encouraged to invest in environmentally-friendly public transportation methods, such as electric buses and trams. Additionally, they should establish accommodations that utilize renewable energy and implement efficient waste management systems. |
