On September 2, 2025, Ba Dinh Square in Hanoi was awash with red flags as the nation celebrated the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945-2025) and National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945-2025).

At 6:30 a.m. on September 2, 2025, the ceremony marking the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 - August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025) took place.
At 6:30 A.M, the ceremony commenced with the traditional torch relay and lighting of the flame by Lieutenant General Nguyen Duc Soat, a Hero of the Armed Forces and former Deputy Chief of Staff, who shot down six enemy aircraft during the war. The flame, symbolizing Vietnam’s aspirations, was followed by a solemn flag-raising ceremony.
Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh introduced the distinguished attendees, including General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and other senior leaders, alongside veterans, Heroes of Vietnam, and representatives from ministries, localities, and the public. International leaders, diplomats, and representatives of global organizations also joined the event.
General Secretary To Lam delivered a keynote address, reflecting on 80 years of revolutionary achievements and national progress. At 7:05 a.m., the military parade began, led by heroic formations of the Vietnam People’s Air Force soaring above, followed by a naval parade.

The ground parade featured ceremonial units, including vehicles bearing the National Emblem, the National and Party Flags, a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh, and symbols of the 80th anniversary. Led by Lieutenant General Nguyen Hong Thai, Deputy Minister of Defense, 22 units of the Vietnam People’s Army and militia showcased their valor, adorned with prestigious medals, embodying President Ho Chi Minh’s praise: “Our army, loyal to the Party and devoted to the people, is ready to fight and sacrifice for the nation’s independence, freedom, and socialism.”
The parade began with formations of the heroic Vietnam People’s Air Force flying over the nation’s skies.

Leading the parade was the honor guard with a model vehicle carrying the National Emblem, the bloc of the National Flag and Party Flag, and a vehicle bearing the portrait of President Ho Chi Minh.

The Vietnam People’s Police, led by Major General Le Van Sao, featured 17 units, showcasing their role in safeguarding national security since their founding during the 1945 August Revolution. Modern military and police vehicles, including tanks, artillery, and advanced air defense systems like the domestically developed Truong Son missile and upgraded S-125-VT system, demonstrated Vietnam’s defense capabilities.
The contingents of the Vietnam People’s Public Security Force joined the parade marking the 80th National Day.
The parade also featured a wide range of specialized vehicles, modern equipment, and advanced weaponry of the Army and Public Security forces.
The Truong Son missile system-researched, developed, and manufactured domestically by the Viettel Military Industry and Telecoms Group was showcased.
The armored tank formation marched proudly in the parade.
The S-125-VT air defense missile complex, an upgraded and modernized version of the Soviet-developed S-125 Pechora-2TM (SAM-3), was also presented. This system is designed to counter aerial threats, particularly effective against low-flying, small-sized targets such as cruise missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) weapons increasingly common in modern warfare.
A vibrant display of national unity
On the morning of September 2, Ba Dinh Square was awash with red flags, celebrating the nation’s grand festival.
Following the armed forces, the Red Flag unit led 13 civilian contingents, representing the Vietnam Fatherland Front, 54 ethnic groups, veterans, workers, farmers, intellectuals, journalists, entrepreneurs, women, overseas Vietnamese, youth, and cultural-sports figures, symbolizing the nation’s unity and diversity.
Ba Dinh Square, vibrant with red flags, stood as a testament to Vietnam’s enduring spirit and collective pride on this historic milestone.
