Honoring 80 years of solidarity and cooperation

On September 1, 2025, General Phan Van Giang, Politburo Member, Deputy Secretary of the Central Military Commission, and Minister of Defense, welcomed defense leaders from Cuba, Russia, Cambodia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Hanoi. The delegations came to attend the 80th grand anniversary in celebration of Vietnam’s August Revolution and National Day (September 2, 1945 - 2025).

General Phan Van Giang extended warm greetings and heartfelt gratitude, noting that their presence reflects the deep friendship, cooperation, and solidarity between their nations, peoples, and armed forces with Vietnam. He underscored the Vietnam People’s Army’s role over the past 80 years as a loyal force under the Communist Party’s leadership, safeguarding national sovereignty while fostering international defense cooperation for peace and stability.

The military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary aims to inspire self-reliance and unity among Vietnamese people, honor international partners, and celebrate shared values of independence, freedom, and peace. Vietnam’s defense diplomacy has expanded ties with over 100 countries, contributing to UN peacekeeping and regional stability.

General Phan Van Giang thanked the defense ministries of China, Russia, Laos, and Cambodia for their participation in the parade, enhancing the event’s success. He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to independent, multilateral foreign policy, seeking to deepen defense cooperation and address global security challenges.

Representing the visiting delegations, Senior Lieutenant General Álvaro López Miera, Politburo Member of Cuba’s Communist Party and Minister of the Revolutionary Armed Forces, expressed gratitude for the invitation.

“It is a great honor to join this historic celebration, symbolizing the courage and indomitable spirit of the Vietnamese people in their fight for independence and happiness. This event honors the sacrifices of heroes who secured freedom. We cherish this opportunity to stand with you, reaffirming our commitment to friendship and mutual respect. We congratulate the Vietnamese people and the Vietnam People’s Army on this milestone,” he stated.
