Vietnam advances draft E-Commerce Law to strengthen digital trade

Vietnam’s draft E-Commerce Law aims to clarify stakeholder duties, enhance online consumer protection, and build a transparent framework for modern digital economy.

The draft E-Commerce Law focuses on clearly defining the rights and responsibilities of key stakeholders, including e-commerce traders, individual online business operators, e-commerce platforms, supporting service providers (logistics, payment, and advertising), as well as foreign organizations and enterprises conducting cross-border activities in Vietnam.

This draft law is expected to create a transparent and harmonized legal framework for online transactions; promote the digital economy; protect consumer rights; and support businesses in developing within a modern, competitive, and deeply integrated commercial environment.

Earlier, on the morning of November 21, the Ministry of Industry and Trade held a review meeting on the draft E-Commerce Law, an important step before the Ministry reports and submits the draft to the upcoming session of the National Assembly Standing Committee.

Over the past year, the Ministry of Industry and Trade has organized numerous meetings and consultations with ministries, agencies, associations, businesses, and legal experts. The draft law has undergone multiple revisions, including adjustments to terminology and regulations concerning the management of intermediary e-commerce platforms, online consumer protection, oversight of cross-border platforms, transaction transparency, fraud prevention, management of transaction data, and the responsibilities of all market participants.
