According to the Department of Industry under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the vast majority of gasoline-powered vehicles currently manufactured, assembled, imported and officially distributed in Vietnam have been confirmed to be compatible with E5 and E10 biofuels in accordance with the technical specifications set out in QCVN 01:2022/BKHCN.
Most gasoline vehicles in Vietnam compatible with E5 and E10
According to a report by the Task Force responsible for implementing Circular No. 50/2025/TT-BCT, the Department of Industry has been tasked by the Ministry of Industry and Trade with reviewing and publicly disclosing the compatibility of transportation vehicles with E5 and E10 biofuels.
To this end, the Department has coordinated with industry associations, vehicle manufacturers, assemblers and importers to carry out a range of activities aimed at providing scientific and technical evidence to support state management, public communications and consumer guidance.
A key component of this effort has been requiring enterprises to review and publish lists of vehicles that are fully compatible, conditionally compatible or not recommended for use with E5 and E10 gasoline. Companies have also been asked to clarify the technical basis for their assessments, including vehicle model years, engine types and any maintenance or operational considerations.
As of 2:00 p.m. on June 11, 2026, the Ministry of Industry and Trade (through the Department of Industry) had received reports from the Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers' Association (VAMA), the Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM), and a number of major manufacturers and assemblers, including Toyota Vietnam (Toyota and Lexus), Mitsubishi Motors Vietnam, Mercedes-Benz Vietnam (Mercedes-Benz, Maybach and Smart), Ford Vietnam, Thanh Cong Motor Vietnam (Skoda), Hyundai Thanh Cong Vietnam (Hyundai), Daehan Motors (Tera), Chien Thang Automobile (Kenbo), and TCIE Vietnam (TQ).

The Department is continuing to urge the remaining enterprises to submit their reports in order to complete a comprehensive national database managed by the Ministry.
Preliminary review results indicate that most gasoline-powered vehicle models currently manufactured, assembled, imported and officially distributed in Vietnam are compatible with both E5 and E10 gasoline, in accordance with the technical requirements stipulated in QCVN 01:2022/BKHCN and the Worldwide Fuel Charter (WWFC).
Regarding imported vehicles, the Department of Industry issued Official Letter No. 1395/CN-CNCT on June 8, 2026, requesting cooperation from the Import-Export Agency and enterprises holding automobile import licenses to provide lists of imported vehicle models compatible with E5 and E10 gasoline. The information will be used to develop a unified nationwide database.
Gradually strengthening the technical foundation for the E10 roadmap
Alongside the vehicle review process, the Department of Industry has completed a set of technical guidance materials and illustrated leaflets for vehicle categories requiring particular attention when using biofuels. These include older vehicles, carbureted engines, poorly maintained vehicles, agricultural equipment, lawn mowers, leaf blowers, water pumps, generators, small boats and other specialized gasoline engines.
The materials are intended to help minimize technical risks and support consumers in the proper use of biofuels.
At the same time, as part of efforts to strengthen the technical framework for the medium- and long-term development of biofuels, the Department of Industry issued Official Letter No. 277/CN-CNCT on June 11, 2026, requesting the Vietnam Register to review the entire system of technical standards, regulations, testing requirements and certification procedures currently applicable to gasoline-powered vehicles.
The review also includes research into amendments and additions to technical requirements related to the use of biofuels, as well as proposals for a technical roadmap to support studies on increasing ethanol blending ratios in gasoline in the future.
The review focuses on fuel systems, fuel-contact materials, emissions, fuel consumption, operational durability, and the recording of E5/E10 compatibility information in vehicle type-approval documentation and user manuals.
Based on the implementation results to date, it can be concluded that the technical foundation supporting Vietnam’s E10 gasoline roadmap is being progressively strengthened.
Findings from industry associations and manufacturers indicate that most vehicles currently operating in Vietnam can safely use E5 and E10 gasoline while meeting existing technical standards.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade will continue working closely with VAMA, VAMM, automobile and motorcycle manufacturers, and relevant technical agencies to further develop the database of vehicles compatible with E5 and E10, widely disseminate technical guidance for specialized vehicle groups, and establish mechanisms for receiving and addressing consumer feedback.
