Major infrastructure projects to commence
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has announced a plan to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for major projects marking the 50th anniversary of Sai Gon - Gia Dinh officially being named after President Ho Chi Minh. The ceremony is scheduled to take place on the morning of July 1, 2026, at the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Wharf area.
According to the municipal government, the event is intended to create momentum for citywide emulation efforts while demonstrating the political system's determination to implement the Party's resolutions. It also underscores the city's commitment to investing in a modern and integrated infrastructure network as a foundation for rapid and sustainable development.

Ho Chi Minh City will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for a series of key infrastructure projects on July 1 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the city being officially named after President Ho Chi Minh.
The projects span a wide range of sectors, including road transport infrastructure, technical infrastructure, social housing, seaports, cultural facilities, and social welfare works, with a combined investment of more than VND381 trillion.
Among the most notable is the Can Gio - Vung Tau sea-crossing route, a mega-project with a total investment exceeding VND 93 trillion. The project stretches more than 14 kilometres and comprises both a bridge and an undersea tunnel. The bridge section will extend for over 8 kilometres, while the undersea tunnel will run nearly 3.9 kilometres, with the remainder consisting of approach roads. The route will begin at Bien Dong 2 Road in the Can Gio Coastal Urban Area and terminate at the planned Sao Mai - Ben Dinh route in the former Vung Tau City. Designed with six to eight lanes, the project will be implemented under a Build-Transfer (BT) contract.
Another flagship project is the expressway connecting Ho Tram with Long Thanh International Airport, which has a preliminary investment of more than VND 46.9 trillion. The 42-kilometre expressway will start at the intersection of Ho Chi Minh City's Ring Road 4 and Provincial Road 991 in Tan Thanh Ward before connecting with Provincial Road 994 and the coastal route in Xuyen Moc Commune. Designed to urban expressway standards, the road will accommodate speeds of up to 100 km/h and feature six lanes. In densely populated sections, two-lane frontage roads will be built on both sides to facilitate local traffic.
The main alignment of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway, with a total investment exceeding VND22.9 trillion, is also scheduled to break ground during the commemorative event. The project is expected to strengthen regional connectivity and international transport links. Besides easing congestion on National Highway 22, the expressway will improve trade connectivity between Ho Chi Minh City, Tay Ninh Province and Cambodia, supporting logistics development, cross-border commerce and the formation of a key economic corridor in southern Vietnam.
Construction will also begin on the Nha Rong – Khanh Hoi Cultural Park and Saigon River Riverside Green Space Project, which carries an estimated investment of around VND30 trillion. The project will create a large riverside public green space while preserving and promoting the historical value of the Nha Rong Wharf area. In addition, several transport infrastructure works—including the expansion of Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, the construction of the Hoang Dieu underpass and the upgrading of Tan Thuan Bridge—will also commence.
Other projects expected to break ground include Phase 1 of the Cai Mep Ha General and Container Port, the Binh Tien Bridge and Road Project (from Pham Van Chi Street to Nguyen Van Linh Boulevard), the interchange connecting Rung Sac Road with the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, along with numerous other strategic developments.
Hundreds of community development projects launched
Speaking to Vietnam Economic News, Truong Thi Bich Hanh, Member of the Standing Board of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Ho Chi Minh City, said that in celebration of the 50th anniversary of Sai Gon - Gia Dinh officially being named after President Ho Chi Minh (July 2, 1976 - July 2, 2026), the Vietnam Fatherland Front system and socio-political organisations across the city have registered 331 practical projects and initiatives aimed at building a more civilised, modern and compassionate city.
These include 109 projects supporting new-style rural development and urban civilisation, 105 projects in culture and social welfare, and 117 initiatives promoting public awareness, grassroots democracy and national solidarity while contributing to the city's development and safeguarding national security.
According to Truong Thi Bich Hanh, these projects and activities not only provide tangible benefits to local communities through social welfare, environmental protection and urban improvement, but also reflect the spirit of solidarity, responsibility and collective commitment among residents in celebrating this significant political milestone.
Flagship initiatives undertaken by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City include a digital map supporting the implementation of the city's plan to plant one million trees during the 2025–2030 term; the "Spring Homes" programme to build and renovate 174 Great Solidarity houses; a social welfare programme marking the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 – July 27, 2026); and the construction of a clean water supply system for Thanh An Commune in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the plan, the groundbreaking ceremony will take place on the morning of July 1, with the central venue located at the Nha Rong - Khanh Hoi Wharf area, where simultaneous groundbreaking ceremonies for projects across the city will be officially launched.
