Founded in the United States, Westinghouse has played a pioneering role in nuclear power development since building the first nuclear reactor for a US Navy submarine in 1953. Over the decades, the company has expanded its global reach, transferring nuclear technology to countries around the world and establishing itself as a cornerstone of the international nuclear energy industry.

Nearly half of all operational nuclear power plants worldwide rely on technology developed by Westinghouse.

Today, Westinghouse technology is used in nearly half of the world’s operating nuclear power plants. This includes 103 reactors in the United States, 58 in France, 22 in Japan, and 14 in South Korea. These numbers not only reflect the company’s technical leadership but also its reliability in delivering safe and efficient nuclear solutions on a global scale.

In recent years, Westinghouse has pushed the boundaries of nuclear innovation by developing the AP1000 reactor, a Generation III+ design, and the SMR (Small Modular Reactor), which is gaining international attention for its compact design, scalability, and enhanced safety features.
