A decisive start
On June 14, 2019, the VinFast automobile manufacturing plant officially began operations, marking a significant milestone on the map of Vietnam’s automotive industry with a purely Vietnamese car brand.

VinFast’s automobile manufacturing plant was built to Industry 4.0 standards within the VinFast complex, covering a total area of 335ha in Dinh Vu Industrial Park, Cat Hai District, Hai Phong City. The plant allocates 50,000sq.m for the stamping workshop, 100,000sq.m for the body welding workshop, 25,000sq.m for the painting workshop, 50,000sq.m for the engine production workshop, 200,000sq.m for the final assembly workshop, and 20,000sq.m for auxiliary workshops. In addition to six production zones for basic car components and processes, VinFast also designates 30 percent of the area for domestic and foreign suppliers to participate in its production chain.
VinFast aims to produce Vietnamese-branded cars not only by assembling vehicles, but also by participating in the global value chain through the production of car bodies, chassis, and engines.
The first commercial vehicle model VinFast introduced to the Vietnamese market was the Fadil, launched in early June 2019. However, it wasn’t until the arrival of the VinFast Lux SA2.0 and Lux A2.0 at the end of July 2019 that the Vietnamese car brand, VinFast, truly established its presence in the market. For some time afterward, the Fadil, Lux SA2.0, and Lux A2.0 consistently ranked among the best-selling cars in the market. From this point on, Vietnamese people could take pride in the remarkable development of the domestic automotive industry, as a young Vietnamese brand managed to compete and stand alongside established global car brands present in the local market.

Adapting to “green car” trend
Not resting on its initial success, the purely Vietnamese car brand owner made a dramatic shift in its strategy by focusing on the electric vehicle segment. At 10 a.m. on October 15, 2021, VinFast officially launched its first electric car, the VF e34. This is also the first electric vehicle manufactured in Vietnam. VinFast’s entry into the electric vehicle market not only strengthens the Vietnamese car brand’s position in the market, but also marks the beginning of Vietnam’s electric vehicle era, positioning the country as one of the few in the world mastering clean energy vehicle technology.
Producing “green cars” is not simple, but with strategic vision and a commitment to environmental and social responsibility, VinFast has embraced the Government’s commitment at COP 26 by focusing on electric vehicle production. After four years of introducing its first vehicle model, VinFast has decided to “say no” to gasoline cars.
With the successful launch of the VF e34, VinFast has continuously introduced electric vehicle models across various segments, including the VF5, VF6, VF7, VF8, VF9, and VF3. The advantages of VinFast’s electric cars are not only evident in their modern, trend-setting designs, but also in their groundbreaking features, technologies, and services. Each launch reflects VinFast’s focus on innovation in technology, sales methods, and after-sales services, bringing Vietnamese cars closer to local consumers. Moreover, the Made-in-Vietnam electric vehicles have been closely associated with the “Mãnh liệt tinh thần Việt Nam” (Vietnamese spirit of resilience) campaign, helping VinFast electric cars gain more trust in the market.
The advantages of VinFast electric vehicles include low operating costs and numerous driver-assist technologies that make it easy for users to experience the next generation of smart, green cars. Additionally, VinFast has created an edge by developing a diverse range of electrified products, flexible sales policies, and a battery leasing program, making electric vehicles more accessible to users. VinFast has also established a widespread network of charging stations across the country to enhance convenience for vehicle owners. The charging network is present on 125 highways and provincial/national roads, with a maximum distance of approximately 65km between charging points.
Currently, with attractive incentive policies, customers can easily afford a VinFast electric vehicle at a lower on-road cost compared to gasoline-powered models in the same segment. Moreover, the usage cost, which is determined to be only one-third compared to gasoline vehicles, is a key factor that helps VinFast electric vehicles travel more across the roads of Vietnam./.
