Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Thanh Man (R) hosts a reception for Secretary-General of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) Siti Rozaimeriyanty Dato Haji Abdul Rahman, Ha Noi, August 25, 2025
The AIPA leader is on a working visit to Viet Nam to attend the first-ever AIPA Roadshow program held on the same day in the country.
Tran spoke highly of the program organized by AIPA, stemming from the initiative launched by the Secretary-General, which helps connect the younger generation more closely with the AIPA as well as its events and activities.
He also commended the Secretary-General and the AIPA Secretariat for their innovative initiatives that have contributed to enhancing AIPA's role and operational effectiveness, thereby promoting relations among the parliaments of member countries.
The legislator affirmed that Viet Nam remains an active and responsible member of the AIPA.
Tran called on ASEAN countries to strengthen solidarity, enhance effective cooperation, make full use of advantages and potential, and tap into new drivers of growth—particularly in science and technology, digital transformation, and green transition.
All disputes and differences must be resolved by peaceful means, in the spirit of traditional solidarity and in line with the common principles enshrined in the ASEAN Charter and the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC), told the host.
The Chairman of the National Assembly proposed member parliaments continue to increase exchanges and share information and experiences in legislation, oversight, and decision-making on important national issues.
He called for greater interaction among parliamentarians of ASEAN countries—especially young and female parliamentarians—thereby contributing to a stronger foundation for friendship and cooperation within ASEAN.
The Vietnamese National Assembly will continue to make active contributions to AIPA's activities, focusing on promoting parliamentary cooperation, supporting policies, and providing a legal framework for the region's sustainable socio-economic development, emphasized Tran.
Through the AIPA, member parliaments can work together to build a solid legal foundation that effectively supports governments in realizing ASEAN's commitments, said the Vietnamese leader.
The Vietnamese NA is actively preparing and proposing several topics for discussion at AIPA's committees, and stands ready to participate in discussions and contribute to draft resolutions and initiatives proposed by AIPA member parliaments, as well as the Joint Communiqué of the 46th AIPA General Assembly.
The AIPA leader, for her part, expressed her delight to visit Viet Nam on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the country's National Day, noting that Viet Nam has always been an active and responsible member of the AIPA, particularly in promoting initiatives related to youth, women, and sustainable development.
She provided information on the key activities of the AIPA Roadshow in Viet Nam, including discussions, exchanges, and experience-sharing sessions between AIPA delegates and Vietnamese youth and students.
She expressed her hope that the Vietnamese legislative body would continue to support and strengthen ties with the AIPA Secretariat to further promote the role of youth and young parliamentarians in AIPA's activities.
The legislator took the occasion to express her wish to welcome the top Vietnamese legislator to attend the 46th AIPA General Assembly, scheduled to be held in Malaysia in September this year./.
