On the morning of June 16 in Hanoi, the Department of Innovation, Green Transition and Industrial Promotion under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, in coordination with Hanoi Radio and Television, officially launched the online competition “Learning About Energy Efficiency and Conservation 2026.”
Promoting a culture of energy efficiency
The competition aims to further innovate communication activities on energy efficiency and conservation while amplifying the objectives of the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for the 2019 - 2030 period (VNEEP3). It is also expected to raise public awareness and encourage more responsible energy consumption practices in line with Directive No. 09/CT-TTg dated March 19, 2026 on strengthening energy conservation, promoting energy transition and electric transportation development, and Directive No. 10/CT-TTg dated March 30, 2026 on enhancing electricity-saving measures and rooftop solar power development.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Dang Hai Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transition and Industrial Promotion under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, noted that amid rising energy demand, particularly during periods of extreme heat, energy efficiency and conservation are becoming increasingly important. Beyond benefiting individual households and businesses, efficient energy use is a key solution for ensuring national energy security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and advancing sustainable development.

Dang Hai Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Innovation, Green Transition and Industrial Promotion, speaks at the launch ceremony.
According to Dang Hai Dung, the Government and the Prime Minister have introduced a range of important policies to promote energy efficiency. These include the amended Law on Economical and Efficient Use of Energy, passed by the National Assembly on June 18, 2025 and effective from January 1, 2026, as well as the two directives issued earlier this year on energy conservation, energy transition, electric transportation, electricity savings and rooftop solar development. These policies provide important guidance for society-wide action toward efficient energy use and sustainable growth.
“The online competition ‘Learning About Energy Efficiency and Conservation 2026’ is organized as part of the communication activities under the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for the 2019–2030 period. It aims to further modernize outreach efforts and leverage digital platforms to spread the program’s messages more effectively,” Dang Hai Dung said.
As digital transformation continues to accelerate, online platforms have become increasingly effective tools for connecting with and informing the public. Organizing the competition in an online format not only enhances interaction but also helps energy-saving messages reach a broader audience, particularly young people, who play a vital role in shaping green lifestyles and promoting positive behavioral changes throughout society.
The Deputy Director highlighted that 2026 marks the fifth consecutive year the competition has been held. Previous editions have attracted hundreds of thousands of participants nationwide, reflecting growing public awareness of energy efficiency and demonstrating the effectiveness of communication initiatives implemented by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Delegates attend the event.
The Ministry expects the 2026 competition to continue receiving strong support and participation from people across the country. It also hopes the messages shared through today’s activities will further encourage energy-efficient practices to become routine habits and an integral part of daily life and production activities.
Alongside the launch ceremony, the forum “Energy Conservation Requires the Participation of the Entire Society” was also held. Broadcast live through Hanoi Radio and Television’s online channels, including YouTube, Facebook and electronic news platforms, the forum is intended to broaden public engagement and further disseminate the message of energy conservation.
Through the forum, the Ministry of Industry and Trade seeks to strengthen cooperation among government agencies, businesses and communities in promoting new technologies, high-efficiency equipment, renewable energy development and the gradual adoption of energy-saving habits across society.
“Using energy efficiently and responsibly is not only a responsibility but also a practical benefit for every individual, business and the entire society. Small actions such as turning off electrical appliances when not in use, adjusting air conditioners appropriately, or optimizing production processes can collectively make a significant contribution to the country’s sustainable future,” Dang Hai Dung emphasized.
Turning energy conservation into everyday practice
At the event, Pham Viet Thach, Deputy Head of the Environment and Sustainable Development Committee of Vietnam Electricity (EVN), said that as the enterprise entrusted with ensuring electricity supply for socio-economic development and daily life, EVN recognizes that alongside investments in power generation and grid infrastructure, efficient electricity use remains one of the most important, cost-effective and sustainable solutions for maintaining a safe, stable and reliable power supply.
EVN has worked closely with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, local authorities and electricity users to implement a range of initiatives related to electricity conservation, demand-side management, load adjustment, efficient electricity use and digital applications that help customers monitor and optimize energy consumption. The corporation has also strengthened cooperation with provincial Departments of Industry and Trade, local governments and major energy users to enhance public awareness, provide technical support and monitor compliance with regulations on efficient energy use.
“We believe that energy conservation can only achieve its full potential when it becomes a regular awareness and practice among government agencies, businesses and citizens. Building a culture of efficient energy use requires not only communication efforts but also the collective commitment of regulators, enterprises and communities in implementing practical and long-term solutions,” Pham Viet Thach said.

Marking its fifth consecutive year in 2026, the competition has become a widely recognized annual event, drawing strong participation from people in all regions of Vietnam.
Now in its fifth consecutive year, the competition has become a familiar annual event, attracting enthusiastic participation from people across Vietnam. In this context, the 2026 online competition serves as a meaningful and practical platform. Beyond disseminating knowledge, it represents a modern communication initiative that encourages positive action and inspires individuals to adopt more efficient, sustainable energy consumption habits.
Following the launch, EVN plans to issue guidance to its member units encouraging participation and calling on employees, workers and customers to take part in the competition, thereby helping to spread the message of energy efficiency throughout society.
EVN also reaffirmed its commitment to continuing cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and Trade, other ministries, local authorities and relevant organizations in implementing electricity-saving programs, demand-side management initiatives and energy-efficiency measures, contributing to national energy security, sustainable development goals and the country’s socio-economic growth.
Building on the success of previous editions, the 2026 competition will be hosted on the website of the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation at https://tietkiemnangluong.com.vn/. The competition will run from 8:00 a.m. on June 16, 2026 until 12:00 p.m. on July 20, 2026 and will consist of five rounds.
The competition has generated remarkable participation over the past three years, attracting 406,573 participants and a total of 623,734 submissions. These figures reflect growing public interest in energy efficiency and further demonstrate the effectiveness of the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s communication efforts.

Delegates and guests attend the forum.
Results for each round will be publicly announced on the program’s website, Facebook page and Zalo Official Account to ensure transparency, encourage participation and enhance the competition’s outreach. The initiative is expected to become an increasingly prominent feature of community engagement activities, helping bring energy-saving messages into everyday life.
For each round, five prizes will be awarded to the highest-scoring participants. A Special Prize worth VND 3 million will be presented to the contestant who answers all questions correctly, predicts the number of participants most accurately and completes the test in the shortest time. The remaining prizes are valued at VND 1 million each.
Organizers hope that the competition’s practical and accessible questions on electricity and energy conservation will continue to attract broad participation from people across all regions and demographics. Through this effort, the competition is expected to further promote the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation while raising public understanding of energy-saving practices in general.
