
Prime Minister Le Minh Hung holds phone talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang

During the talks, held in a friendly, candid and constructive atmosphere, Premier Li congratulated Prime Minister Hung on his election and highly appreciated his contributions to Vietnam-China relations through various positions he has held.
PM Hung welcomed China’s continued prioritization of relations with Vietnam in its neighborhood diplomacy, stressing that Vietnam consistently regards the development of ties with China as an objective necessity, a strategic choice and a top priority in its independent, self-reliant and diversified foreign policy.

The two leaders noted the positive momentum in bilateral relations, particularly the implementation of high-level common understandings reached by the top leaders of the two Parties and countries. They agreed to maintain regular communication and close coordination to effectively implement outcomes of Party General Secretary and State President To Lam’s recent state visit to China, as well as Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Vietnam in 2025.
Regarding future cooperation, Prime Minister Hung proposed further strengthening strategic trust, maintaining high-level exchanges and existing cooperation mechanisms, including the 3+3 Strategic Dialogue on diplomacy, defense and public security. He also called for stronger infrastructure connectivity, prioritizing railway cooperation, developing multimodal transport links, promoting balanced and sustainable trade, accelerating the operation of smart border gates and establishing cross-border economic cooperation zones.
The Vietnamese leader also expressed hope for expanded cooperation in science and technology, education, high-quality human resources training, healthcare and traditional medicine, as well as stronger cultural and tourism exchanges through the Vietnam-China Tourism Cooperation Years 2026-2027. He underscored the importance of enhancing cooperation among localities, especially border provinces.
Premier Li reaffirmed that China regards Vietnam as a priority direction in its neighborhood diplomacy and stands ready to deepen strategic alignment and practical cooperation across various sectors.
Agreeing with Prime Minister Hung’s proposals, Premier Li said China is willing to accelerate railway connectivity, strengthen industrial and regional linkages, expand agricultural trade and quarantine cooperation, encourage high-quality investment in technology and innovation, enhance energy and power-grid cooperation, and effectively implement the China–Vietnam Tourism Cooperation Years 2026-2027. He also highlighted the need to promote people-to-people exchanges and social welfare cooperation projects.
The two leaders exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual concern and pledged close coordination to ensure the success of the APEC Years 2026 and 2027, to be hosted by China and Vietnam, respectively. They also agreed to better manage differences, maintain peace and stability at sea, and foster a favorable environment for the development of both countries.
