As fellow members of the Vietnam-Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement (EAEU FTA), Vietnam and Russia benefit from a favorable trade framework, with Russia widely regarded as a promising destination for Vietnamese exports.
Speaking at a trade promotion seminar on the Russian market held in late February 2026, Le Hoang Tai, Deputy Director General of the Trade Promotion Agency under the Ministry of Industry and Trade, noted that the import-export structures of Vietnam and Russia are highly complementary.
He emphasized that as global supply chains continue to undergo significant adjustments, the Russian market is creating noteworthy opportunities for Vietnamese products, particularly consumer goods, agricultural products and food items.
To effectively tap into this market, Vietnamese businesses must proactively adapt to requirements relating to standards and regulations, logistics, payment mechanisms, as well as the specific characteristics of Russia’s business environment.
Vietnamese enterprises are encouraged to establish representative offices in Russia to strengthen the presence of Vietnamese products in the market. They should also actively participate in each other's specialized trade exhibitions to gain deeper market insights, identify potential business partners, gradually expand exports, and enhance brand recognition.
In addition, businesses should take part in direct trade missions organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and local authorities to strengthen connections, explore cooperation opportunities, and expand market access.
At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Le Minh Hung led a high-level Vietnamese delegation to attend the ASEAN-Russia Commemorative Summit marking the 35th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia relations, while also conducting bilateral activities in Kazan, Russia, from June 16 to 18, 2026.
The visit marks Prime Minister Le Minh Hung’s first official trip to Russia since assuming office, underscoring Vietnam’s strong commitment to the ASEAN-Russia Strategic Partnership. It also reflects the country’s continued interest in strengthening the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
