Vietnam - Chinese firms strengthen cooperation in high-tech, green sectors

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Phan Thi Thang held a working session with a delegation of more than 50 Chinese enterprises led by the Chairman of Sunwah Group

On the morning of May 25, 2026, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT), Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang received and worked with a delegation of more than 50 Chinese enterprises led by Dr Jonathan Choi, Standing Committee Member of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce Hong Kong, Chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Entrepreneurs Alliance, Founding Chairman of the Hong Kong-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce, and Chairman of Sunwah Group.

Attending the meeting on the side of MoIT were representatives from the Foreign Market Development, Multilateral Trade Policy Department, the Agency of Foreign Trade, the Vietnam Industry Agency, and the Vietnam Trade Promotion Agency  from several industrial parks and major Vietnamese enterprises also joined the meeting.

Opening the meeting, Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang warmly welcomed Dr Jonathan Choi and the Chinese business delegation on their visit to Vietnam and their working session with MoIT. She also expressed appreciation for the contributions made by Dr Jonathan Choi and Sunwah Group in promoting trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and China in general, and Hong Kong in particular.

Jonathan Choi said that in recent years, he had coordinated with MoIT to organise various trade and investment promotion events in several localities in China, including the Greater Bay Area, Shanghai, Chongqing, Shandong and Nanning, and would continue serving as a bridge to strengthen cooperation and trade promotion activities between enterprises of both sides in localities with significant potential such as Yunnan, Guangxi, Hainan and Zhejiang.

At the meeting, representatives of Chinese enterprises introduced their potential and technological capabilities, while expressing interest in cooperation in areas where Chinese firms hold strengths, including smart logistics, green transport, automation, the digital economy, and exchanges between young entrepreneurs of the two countries.

Deputy Minister Phan Thi Thang shared updates on economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and China, as well as Hong Kong, in recent years; Vietnam’s development orientations in the fields of industry and trade; and mechanisms and policies related to international cooperation, trade promotion and investment attraction. She also outlined several potential areas of cooperation between the two sides, encouraging Chinese enterprises to invest in sectors prioritised by Vietnam such as high technology, the green economy, the digital economy, automation, new energy, smart manufacturing and supporting industries.

The Deputy Minister emphasised the need for investments to be associated with clear localisation roadmaps and the formation of integrated supply chains and production chains in Vietnam. In addition, she proposed that Sunwah Group continue acting as a bridge to support trade promotion and market expansion for Vietnam’s key products in China, while regularly organising business delegations to participate in major trade fairs hosted annually by MoIT in Vietnam.

On this occasion, leaders of MoIT units attending the meeting also addressed several questions raised by representatives of Chinese enterprises regarding regulations, policy mechanisms related to investment incentives, trade, and Vietnam’s import-export procedures.

The working session took place in an open and candid atmosphere, promising to create new opportunities for business connectivity and cooperation in supply chains, smart manufacturing and new energy in the coming period.
