PSD Group, Cambodia to deepen collaboration on drug prevention and economic development

With many years of experience implementing drug prevention programmes in Viet Nam, the PSD Group and the PSD Institute are committed to fostering the vision of a drug-free Indochina with Cambodia.

On the morning of May 29 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, PSD Group and the PSD Institute for Drug Prevention Research and Application (PSD Institute) held an official meeting with General Neth Savoeun, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

Expanding cooperation and strategic investment

During the meeting, the PSD Institute presented a detailed cooperation plan for drug prevention in Cambodia, developed in alignment with the country’s current situation, needs, and national strategy. The plan emphasises the importance of prevention education and communication, capacity-building for core personnel, scientific research, and the application of psychological approaches in treatment and relapse prevention.

To ensure sustainable effectiveness in Cambodia’s drug prevention efforts, Le Trung Tuan, Chairman of the PSD Institute’s Board of Trustees, proposed the establishment of a National Drug Prevention Fund by the Government of Cambodia. This fund would mobilise resources from the private sector and the general public to provide long-term financial support for drug prevention initiatives.

In addition to drug prevention, PSD Group presented proposals for strategic investment cooperation in Cambodia in two key sectors:

In the high-tech agriculture sector, PSD aims to develop agricultural models focused on food crops, particularly the production of cassava starch — one of Cambodia’s high-potential industries.

In the metallic mineral mining sector, the Group proposed to conduct surveys and implement sustainable mining investment in Ratanakiri, Stung Treng, and Preah Vihear provinces. The approach will prioritise deep processing, environmental protection, and ensuring that local communities benefit from the development.

Additionally, PSD also requested approval from the Cambodian Government to conduct research and field surveys, and to work directly with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Ministry of Mines and Energy to carry out necessary legal procedures.

A heartfelt commitment to a drug-free future

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Neth Savoeun commended the PSD Institute’s achievements in drug prevention in Viet Nam and expressed his hope that, through its practical experience and resources, the Institute would support Cambodia in enhancing the effectiveness of its drug prevention work.

The Deputy Prime Minister also welcomed and appreciated the goodwill of PSD Group and the PSD Institute, and expressed strong support for the proposed initiatives, particularly the long-term, sustainable, and humanitarian drug prevention cooperation programme.

The meeting between PSD Group and high-ranking Cambodian government leaders marks not only the beginning of a new chapter in bilateral cooperation on drug prevention but also underscores the pioneering role of social enterprises in advancing regional development initiatives.

It highlights the growing trend of deeper integration, where businesses pursue not only economic goals but also contribute directly to sustainable development objectives, for the benefit of communities and a drug-free future in Southeast Asia.

PSD Group is a diversified social enterprise operating across various sectors, including investment, trade, agriculture, mining, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and most notably, drug prevention research, training, and communication through the PSD Institute. Over the years, PSD has built a strong foundation of scientific expertise, a team of specialists, and a practical body of educational materials for drug prevention in Viet Nam.

Driven by a deep sense of purpose and humanitarian mission, PSD Group and the PSD Institute aim to share their knowledge and methods, and to cooperate closely with the Government of Cambodia in building a safe, drug-free, sustainable, and prosperous society.

"We believe that with the support of the Cambodian Government, this programme will contribute to building a healthy and sustainable society, for the happiness of the people and the development of the region", said the enterprise in its report to the Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister.
