MoIT commits to accompanying, promoting LNG-fired power development

Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan affirmed that the MoIT will work closely with businesses to remove obstacles and mobilize resources for energy projects.

Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan has affirmed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) will accompany businesses in removing difficulties and unlocking resources to promote energy development, including liquefied natural gas (LNG)-fired power.

On the morning of August 14, 2026, at the workshop "LNG-fired Power Development: Ensuring Energy Security for Double-Digit Growth," jointly organized by the MoIT and the Da Nang municipal People's Committee, with the Vietnam Industry and Trade Newspaper, the Da Nang municipal Department of Industry and Trade, and PetroVietnam Power Corporation (PV Power) together with its Power Project Management Board assigned to coordinate implementation, experts and speakers put forward a wide range of proposals to remove obstacles hindering the development of LNG-fired power.

Delivering closing remarks, the Deputy Minister stressed that the workshop had not only clarified the role of LNG-fired thermal power but, more importantly, had identified practical issues and proposed specific solutions to concretize the Party and State's guidelines on energy development, particularly Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW dated August 20, 2025, of the Politburo on ensuring national energy security through 2030, with a vision to 2045. "This will help unlock resources and accelerate energy projects, so that energy truly goes one step ahead, meeting the country's requirements for fast and sustainable growth," Tan said.

Acknowledging the dedicated contributions of speakers, scientists, experts and investors at the workshop, the Deputy Minister said the opinions had focused on the core issues of energy security, including matters related to LNG-fired thermal power and the role of energy in general, and LNG-fired thermal power in particular, in serving the goal of double-digit economic growth throughout the 2026 - 2030 period and beyond.

"The contributions and presentations of the delegates clearly reflected the whole process, from guidelines and institutions to implementation, and in particular identified practical issues from the perspective of investors and power projects. The question is how to find a solution for the input side while also ensuring the output for LNG-fired power projects," the Deputy Minister said, requesting that the Electricity Authority fully absorb the input and consolidate it into groups of solutions, focusing on practical issues to develop the LNG-fired thermal power industry in service of the double-digit growth target and national energy security.

More than 200 delegates from central and local agencies, experts, businesses and investors attended the workshop "LNG-fired Power Development: Ensuring Energy Security for Double-Digit Growth."

Specifically, the first group of solutions concerns institutions. According to the Deputy Minister, the current institutional framework is relatively complete but will be adjusted and updated to suit the new situation.

"The MoIT has been assigned to lead the drafting of the revised Electricity Law, which will be submitted to the National Assembly, in addition to drafting decrees guiding its implementation," Tan said.

The second group concerns solutions to support businesses. The Deputy Minister noted that when state agencies support businesses, more investors will join the LNG-fired power sector. "In the coming time, the State will build a competitive electricity market mechanism, which will address the concerns raised by experts at the workshop," he said.

The third and most important group, according to the Deputy Minister, is feasibility. Having institutions and support in place is not enough; what matters most is feasibility, to ensure energy security and, further, to serve the economy. This is the responsibility of central and local agencies. "This workshop, organized by MoIT and the Da Nang municipal People's Committee, demonstrates the responsibility and coordination between central and local agencies. I hope this spirit will spread to all localities," Tan said, expressing confidence that with the support and accompaniment of the MoIT and local people's committees, projects such as the Hoa Ninh LNG project in Da Nang and the Quynh Lap LNG project in Nghe An will succeed.

The coordination between the MoIT and the Da Nang municipal People's Committee in proactively organizing the workshop on LNG-fired power development reflects the responsibility and active coordination between central and local agencies.

"The MoIT is committed to strongly renewing its thinking and actions, shifting from management to development facilitation, from 'handling incidents' to 'proactive forecasting and risk management,' and will continue to review and improve mechanisms and policies, remove difficulties, and unlock resources to ensure energy security," Tan affirmed, adding: "The ultimate goal is not to develop a single type of power source, but to build a synchronized national energy system that ensures the overall goal of energy security in service of double-digit growth."

The Deputy Minister also said the MoIT will continue to strictly implement the Party and State's guidelines, promote a spirit of proactiveness, responsibility, facilitation and accompaniment, and closely coordinate with ministries, sectors, localities and the business community to remove difficulties, unlock resources, and promote the development of energy and electricity, including LNG-fired power.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan acknowledged and highly appreciated the opinions, recommendations and proposals of speakers, experts and delegates on developing LNG-fired power in particular and Vietnam's energy sector in general. He also affirmed that MoIT will continue to accompany ministries, sectors, localities and the business community to remove difficulties, unlock resources, and develop energy, including LNG-fired power.
