Notably, the country has begun exporting specialty coffee, commanding prices 1.5 to 2 times higher than the global average.
According to the General Department of Customs, Vietnam exported 37,450 tonnes of coffee worth 212.71 million USD in the first 15 days of September 2025. From January to 15 September, total exports reached 1.191 million tonnes, valued at 6.73 billion USD.
Vietnamese enterprises are advised to prioritize differentiated product lines, particularly high-quality and specialty coffee, to gain a competitive edge in global markets.
In August 2025, Vietnam shipped 84,100 tonnes of coffee worth 460 million USD, down 17.6% in volume and 17.2% in value compared with July. However, exports still increased by 11.1% in volume and 14.3% in value year-on-year.
For the January-August period, coffee exports totalled nearly 1.15 million tonnes worth 6.5 billion USD, up 8.6% in volume and 61.1% in value compared with the same period in 2024. According to the Agency of Foreign Trade (Ministry of Industry and Trade), the sharp growth was driven by an average export price of 5,657 USD per tonne, more than 48% higher than a year earlier.
Germany, Italy, and Spain remained Vietnam’s three largest coffee importers, accounting for 14.4%, 8.1%, and 7.5% of total export value, respectively. Compared with the same period last year, exports to Germany doubled, rose 51.5% to Italy, and increased 60.8% to Spain. Among the top 15 markets, Mexico recorded the strongest surge 91-fold while China registered the lowest growth at 11.7%.
A notable trend is the rising exports of Arabica and processed coffee, highlighting Vietnam’s growing investment in processing technology and Arabica cultivation. This shift reflects efforts to supply value-added products that meet the demand of high-end markets such as the European Union, the United States, and Japan.
Experts noted that Vietnam’s strong export performance was supported not only by global supply fluctuations but also by the country’s proactive efforts to improve quality, develop specialty coffee, obtain sustainability certifications, and expand deep processing to meet international standards. Over the past decade, the quality of Vietnamese coffee has improved significantly, with world-renowned roasters in Europe, the US, and Italy now sourcing Vietnam’s robust Robusta beans.
The Agency of Foreign Trade emphasized that beyond supply-demand dynamics, Vietnam’s coffee sector has also benefited from domestic enterprises’ investment in modern processing technologies and traceability systems. These efforts have increased product value, consolidated traditional markets, and expanded into new potential destinations, contributing to diversification and higher export earnings.
To maintain momentum, the industry must further promote deep processing, brand development, market diversification, and especially standardization of quality, traceability, and sustainability certifications increasingly critical requirements in premium markets.
Vietnam is expected to harvest its largest coffee crop in four years thanks to favourable rainfall, which could ease global supply shortages and exert downward pressure on international coffee prices. Production for the 2025/26 crop year is forecast to reach 1.76 million tonnes, up 6% from last year, equivalent to 29.4 million 60kg bags. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), this will be Vietnam’s biggest harvest since the 2021/22 crop year. USDA projects Vietnam’s 2025/26 output at 31 million bags, with survey estimates ranging between 1.62 million and 1.9 million tonnes (27-32 million bags).
