Vietnam’s destinations increasingly attractive on global tourism map

(VEN) - The Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that data from the Google Destination Insights show a significant increase in international searches for Vietnam tourism.

According to the data, international searches for tourist accommodation in Vietnam increased by 15 to 30% from late November 2024 to the end of January 2025 compared to the same period last year. Notably, in the first half of February 2025, those searches continued to rise by 30 to 45%.

Among countries that searched the most for Vietnam tourism, the United States topped the list, followed by Australia, India, Japan, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and Malaysia. These are all Vietnam’s key tourism markets in the Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe and North America.

Among them, Australia and India, ranked 2nd and 3rd in terms of search volume, showing great potential and room for further growth.

In the first half of February 2025, the international searches for information about Vietnam tourism continued to increase by 30% - 45%

The 10 destinations of Vietnam that are most searched by international visitors are: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Phu Quoc, Nha Trang, Hoi An, Da Lat, Phan Thiet, Hue and Vung Tau. This continues to be a positive signal for Vietnam tourism in early 2025 after a breakthrough development period in 2024.

According to statistics from the VNAT, in January 2025, Vietnam welcomed 2.1 million international visitors, an increase of 18.5% compared to December 2024 and a 36.9% rise compared to January 2024. This is a new record for the tourism industry that surpassed the figure of nearly 2 million international visitors in January 2020.

The relaxed visa policy and breakthrough promotion programs in 2024 continued to stimulate demand from international visitors to Vietnam. At the same time, Vietnam’s tourism brand has also been elevated in the global market.

In 2025, the local tourism sector has set an ambitious goal of attracting 22-23 million international visitors, serving 120-130 million domestic tourists, earning approximately US$39 to 42 billion from tourism services, and creating 5.5 million jobs.

By 2030, the tourism sector strives to become a key economic sector, welcoming about 35 million international and 160 million domestic visitors. The increase in demand from international visitors to Vietnam shows the clear effectiveness of the newly-issued open visa policy, and breakthrough promotion programs in the past year, helping elevate the brand of Vietnam’s tourism in the world, as well as the system of Vietnam’s tourism products and services that are increasingly rich, attractive, high-quality, suitable to the needs and tastes of tourists in the new period.

Recently, the Government issued Resolution No.11 on visa exemptions for citizens of Poland, the Czech Republic and Switzerland from March 1, 2025 to December 31, 2025. This visa waiver policy is expected to continue to be an important “push” to attract international visitors from the three European markets to Vietnam this year.
