Vietnamese travelers favor familiar domestic getaways
Vietnamese travelers are increasingly embracing more intentional and personalized travel experiences, with domestic search trends this summer highlighting a strong preference for familiar, convenient destinations that offer relaxation and ease of planning.
According to Booking.com’s Travel Predictions 2026, this year marks the “Era of You,” a period in which travelers are moving beyond traditional checklist-driven itineraries and instead designing trips around their own interests and priorities. The trend is particularly evident during the summer holiday season, when families and groups take advantage of school breaks and seasonal vacations to reconnect and spend quality time together.

Quy Nhon remains among the top 10 most-searched domestic destinations by Vietnamese travelers for summer 2026
Based on accommodation searches for stays between June 1 and August 31, 2026, Da Nang emerged as the most searched domestic destination among Vietnamese travelers. The central coastal city continues to attract visitors thanks to its combination of modern urban amenities, extensive beachfront infrastructure and convenient accessibility.
Nha Trang ranked second, followed by Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat, Hoi An, Hanoi, Vung Tau, Phu Quoc, Quy Nhon and Ha Long. The results indicate that travelers are increasingly opting for destinations that are easy to organize and capable of delivering a seamless holiday experience.
Beach destinations remain especially popular. Notably, Da Nang ranked as the most searched destination across all traveler categories, including families, couples, groups and solo travelers. Among families, the most searched destinations were Da Nang, Nha Trang, Da Lat, Vung Tau and Phu Quoc. Couples favored Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Nha Trang, Da Lat and Hoi An, while group travelers showed strong interest in Da Nang, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Vung Tau and Ho Chi Minh City. For solo travelers, Da Nang again led the rankings, followed by Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat and Hoi An.
The consistency of destinations such as Da Nang, Da Lat and Ho Chi Minh City across traveler segments suggests that Vietnamese travelers are seeking well-rounded experiences that combine leisure, culinary exploration, culture and convenience in a single trip.
Asian destinations dominate international travel plans
Beyond Vietnam’s borders, regional destinations continue to drive outbound travel demand. Asian cities accounted for nine of the ten most searched international destinations among Vietnamese travelers this summer, reflecting the region’s accessibility, diverse tourism offerings and strong air connectivity.
Bangkok ranked as the most searched international destination, followed by Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Paris was the only long-haul destination to secure a place in the top ten, ranking sixth. The remaining destinations included Chiang Mai, Osaka, Ubud and Busan.
The data also revealed notable shifts in traveler interest compared with last year. Busan recorded one of the strongest gains, climbing from 39th place to enter the top ten at number 10. Shanghai rose from 16th to 13th position, while Siem Reap moved from 26th to 17th. Istanbul also saw growing interest, advancing from 35th to 20th place.
According to Booking.com, these movements reflect a growing appetite among Vietnamese travelers for a variety of experiences, ranging from cultural discovery and shopping to gastronomy and urban exploration.
Destination preferences also vary by traveler type. For families, Singapore emerged as the most searched international destination, benefiting from its reputation for safety, efficient infrastructure and family-friendly attractions. Bangkok, Tokyo, Seoul and Paris completed the top five family choices.
Among couples, Bangkok led searches ahead of Tokyo, Seoul, Singapore and Kuala Lumpur. Group travelers similarly favored Bangkok, Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul and Osaka, while solo travelers showed the strongest interest in Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Tokyo, Seoul and Paris.
The findings underscore how Vietnamese travelers are becoming increasingly selective about their travel choices, prioritizing destinations that align with their personal interests and travel styles. As personalized travel continues to shape consumer behavior, both domestic beach destinations and regional Asian cities are expected to remain key drivers of summer tourism demand in 2026.
