Steadfast in pursuing a sustainable development strategy

Addressing the ceremony, Than Duc Viet, General Director of May 10, said that in 2025, amid complex and volatile global economic conditions, the company made strong efforts to maintain steady growth. “These figures not only reflect production and business efficiency, but also demonstrate May 10’s responsibility toward employees and society, making practical contribution to the overall development of the textile and garment sector an industry employing nearly three million workers, with export turnover in 2025 estimated at USD 46 billion,” Than Duc Viet said.

Entering a new stage of development marked by intertwined opportunities and challenges, May 10 is increasingly aware of its responsibilities. The company remains steadfast in its sustainable development strategy, placing people at the center, promoting digital and green transformation; enhancing design and creative capabilities; mastering technology and supply chains; linking business operations with social responsibility; and continuing to build a humane, disciplined and inspiring working environment where every May 10 employee can fully realize their value.

Accordingly, May 10 aims to achieve USD 1 billion in import - export turnover by 2030, establish a solid position for the May 10 brand on the global fashion map, and make tangible contributions to the country’s aspiration for prosperity and strength in the new era.

Congratulating the leadership and workforce of May 10, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stressed that the First-class Labor Order is a prestigious award of the Party and the State, recognizing the proud and resilient 80-year journey of generations of officials, workers and employees of May 10.

The Prime Minister recalled that 67 years ago, on May 8, 1959, President Ho Chi Minh visited Garment Factory No. 10 the predecessor of today’s May 10 Corporation. Looking back on the past eight decades, the Prime Minister noted, one can clearly see the strength of the Vietnamese nation’s spirit of self-reliance and resilience. From a poor and war-ravaged country, Vietnam has risen strongly, recording GDP growth of around 8.02% in 2025 well above initial forecasts with GDP reaching approximately USD 514 billion and per capita income exceeding USD 4,200, thus entering the group of upper-middle-income countries.

From a nation once struggling to meet basic needs, Vietnam has become one of the world’s leading exporters, including in rice and textiles. Total import - export turnover in 2025 reached a new record of about USD 930 billion; textile and garment exports alone were estimated at USD 46 billion, affirming the sector’s role as a pillar of the economy.

Despite global volatility, supply-chain disruptions and rapidly changing consumption trends, the Vietnamese textile and garment industry has continued to overcome difficulties, uphold self-reliance, and achieve important results, making substantive contributions to national development. The sector currently comprises about 7.000 enterprises, employs more than three million workers, accounts for roughly 25% of the industrial workforce and nearly 10% of GDP. Including footwear, the figure rises to about 15% of GDP. Localization and value-added rates stand at around 50%, with a relatively complete value chain from yarn, weaving and dyeing to garment manufacturing, contributing 11 - 12% of total export turnover and placing Vietnam firmly among the world’s top three textile and garment exporters. Within these achievements, May 10 has made particularly significant contributions.

Prime Minister assigns five key tasks

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh highly commended the impressive results achieved by May 10, highlighting several key points.

First, the company has maintained sustainable growth amid difficulties, with revenue exceeding VND 5.1 trillion and profit growing by double digits, at around 50%. The title of “Outstanding Export Enterprise” awarded by the Ministry of Industry and Trade is clear evidence of May 10’s standing on the global textile and garment map. Its flexible shift toward the domestic market of more than 100 million consumers when exports faced challenges was a sound strategic move, aligned with Party guidelines and Government management.

Second, May 10 stands as a model enterprise with both vision and integrity, placing employees at the center. Its nursery schools caring for children from six months of age, tuition support for workers’ children, and on-site medical facilities are humane initiatives that deserve wider replication.

Third, May 10 has been a pioneer in dual green and digital transformation. Investments in traceability, clean energy, artificial intelligence applications and green factories have helped boost labor productivity by about 30%, while reducing costs and meeting stringent standards of the EU and US markets, thereby reinforcing the credibility of Vietnamese textiles globally.

Congratulating the industry and May 10 on their proud achievements, the Prime Minister stressed that the First-class Labor Order is a well-deserved recognition and a shared honor for the textile and garment sector and the nation as a whole.

Looking ahead, amid new opportunities and challenges, the Prime Minister called on the textile and garment industry and May 10 to focus on five key tasks.

First, lead in dual transformation, as green transition is no longer an option but an imperative of the times. The industry must take the lead in the Net Zero roadmap, using recycled materials and clean energy to overcome tariff and carbon barriers.

Second, elevate positioning in global value chains, shifting decisively from simple processing to higher value-added models such as FOB and ODM, mastering design and branding. Vietnam must move up the ladder, not merely as a manufacturing hub, but as a place shaping global fashion trends.

Third, build and safeguard the national brand, turning May 10 into a global brand symbolizing Vietnamese intelligence and culture, and making Vietnamese textiles and May 10 in particular, recognized worldwide as a model of civilized, responsible and culturally rich fashion.

The Prime Minister urged May 10 to maximize the benefits of free trade agreements to bring Vietnamese brands further onto the global stage, with broader vision and greater results.

Fourth, effectively tap the domestic market of 100 million people by offering the finest products to serve the people and the nation, implementing effectively the campaign “Vietnamese People Give Priority to Vietnamese Goods,” and contributing to national strategic autonomy in apparel.

Fifth, care for human resources, corporate culture and Party building. People are the most valuable asset and both the driving force and foundation of development. Labor relations must remain harmonious, stable and humane. Social welfare models should be strengthened so that employees truly regard May 10 as their home, where every stitch embodies humanity, care and social responsibility. At the same time, Party development should be emphasized, with exemplary Party members serving as a driving force for sustainable growth.

The Prime Minister stressed that May 10 must rise to become an international fashion group, deeply integrated into global value chains and making positive contributions to Vietnam’s fashion industry.

On this occasion, May 10 was honored with the First-class Labor Order, while three individual leaders of the corporation received the Third-class Labor Order prestigious awards of the Party and the State recognizing the outstanding contributions of May 10’s collective and individuals to national construction and defense.
