Emirates marks 10 years of Hanoi operations

The airline has carried more than 1.7 million passengers between Hanoi and Dubai, while expanding cargo connections between Northern Vietnam and international markets.

Emirates is marking 10 years of passenger operations in Hanoi, connecting Vietnam’s capital with Dubai and nearly 140 destinations across its global network.

Emirates launched its Hanoi route in 2016, making the capital its second passenger destination in Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh City. Over the past decade, the airline has operated more than 6,140 flights and carried over 1.7 million passengers between Hanoi and Dubai. It has also transported 74 million kilograms of cargo in aircraft belly holds, supporting trade between Northern Vietnam and international markets.

Wahid Albalooshi, Country Manager of Emirates Vietnam, said Hanoi had become an increasingly important gateway for tourism, investment and exports from Northern Vietnam.

As economic ties between Vietnam and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) deepen, Emirates aims to further strengthen air connectivity between the two countries and beyond, while helping businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises, access major international markets.

According to Emirates, Dubai, Prague, Amsterdam, Paris, Madrid, Warsaw and Copenhagen have been among the leading destinations for passengers travelling from Hanoi over the past decade.

Vietnam’s international tourism market has continued to grow. According to the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism, the country welcomed nearly 21.2 million international visitors in 2025, up 20.4% year on year and 17.8% above 2019 levels. More than 17.8 million visitors arrived by air, accounting for 84.3% of total international arrivals.

Emirates currently operates 21 weekly flights to and from Vietnam, helping meet demand for international travel.

Beyond passenger services, the airline’s Hanoi operations also support the movement of goods between Vietnam and global markets. Trade ties between Vietnam and the UAE are being further supported by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which took effect on February 3, 2026, providing a framework for stronger bilateral trade and investment.

Through its global logistics network, Emirates SkyCargo connects Vietnamese producers and exporters with international customers, transporting commodities including high-tech products, information technology equipment and electronics.

In the 2025-2026 financial year, Emirates transported more than 21,630 tonnes of export cargo from Hanoi, up 57% from the previous financial year. Between April and August 2026, the airline handled 10,700 tonnes of exports from Hanoi, a 52% increase year on year.

In July 2026, Emirates SkyCargo launched a regular weekly transpacific charter service from Hanoi to Chicago O’Hare International Airport, expanding cargo links between Vietnam and the U.S. market.

The airline’s cargo division currently operates five dedicated weekly freighter services from Hanoi using widebody Boeing 777-F aircraft. These services strengthen cargo connections with Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent.

Over the past decade, Emirates’ passenger and cargo operations have helped strengthen connectivity between Vietnam, the UAE and international markets, supporting tourism, business travel and cross-border trade.
