The discussion took place in a frank, open, and constructive atmosphere. Deputy Minister Nguyen Sinh Nhat Tan congratulated Mr. Switzer on his confirmation by the US Senate as Deputy USTR on September 19, 2025.

During the call, both sides expressed satisfaction that, after 30 years of diplomatic relations, 10 years of a Comprehensive Partnership, and over two years since upgrading to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Vietnam-US relations have continued to develop positively and substantively across all fields. Economic, trade, and investment cooperation remains a key pillar and driving force in the overall bilateral relationship.

In 2024, bilateral trade reached nearly USD 150 billion. The US is Vietnam’s second-largest trading partner and one of its most important export markets, while ranking 11th among 142 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.
