Bac Ninh minimizes greenhouse gas emissions in agricultural production

Agriculture accounts for approximately 30% of greenhouse gas emissions in Vietnam, and contributing significantly to these emissions are wet rice cultivation, livestock farming, and land management and fertilizer use.

Agricultural production accounts for about 2.8% of the province’s gross domestic product (GDP). Each year, Bac Ninh plants 56,000-57,000 hectares of rice and about 10,000ha of cereal crops, and implements aquaculture on around 5,000ha. The province has adopted high-tech and commodity-based agriculture development policies to minimize emissions. Most recently, Resolution 07/2022/NQ-HDND has been introduced, according to which farmers can enjoy a 50-percent reduction in high-yield, high-quality rice seed cost related to concentrated production areas in addition to a 50-percent reduction in organic fertilizer and biological pesticide and agent cost in the first year.

Each project can receive support worth up to VND3 billion for procuring advanced equipment and tools, and adopting new high technology.

Support for each net house and greenhouse can reach up to VND200 million and VND2 billion, respectively.

Farmers and businesses can benefit from a 30-percent reduction in the cost of machinery and equipment for OCOP (One Commune One Product) product, farm produce, forest product and seafood production and processing, and rural industries.

Additionally, Bac Ninh Province provides support for product branding and credit access, as well as incentives for products participating in the OCOP program.

Thanks to these practical policies, many localities in Bac Ninh have developed and expanded agricultural models following circular and organic economic approaches. Numerous new technical advancements have been applied, delivering substantial benefits and contributing to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

To further promote circular and green agricultural models, Bac Ninh plans to enhance communications and guidance, helping farmers understand the importance of circular and organic production. The province will also act as a bridge between enterprises and producers to ensure product consumption, continue implementing pilot organic farming models, and expand the 4F (Farm-Food-Feed-Fertilizer) model./.
