Vietnam, UK strengthen ties with clean energy and trade MoUs

Witnessed by Party General Secretary To Lam and senior leaders, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long and the UK Ambassador to Vietnam presented two cooperation MoUs.

On the morning of October 30, 2025, in London, the United Kingdom, on the sidelines of the official visit of Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse to the UK, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long attended the Vietnam - UK High Level Economic Conference and handed over two cooperation MoUs with the UK’s partner ministries.

In the presence of Party General Secretary To Lam, senior leaders, and representatives of Vietnam’s ministries and agencies, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long, on behalf of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, together with UK Ambassador to Vietnam Iain Frew, presented two cooperation MoUs between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and its UK counterparts. These included: The Memorandum of Understanding on Clean Energy Cooperation between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO); and the Memorandum of Understanding on Product Safety between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the UK Department for Business and Trade (DBT).

The two MoUs were negotiated and signed on the basis of a close and effective partnership between the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the UK counterparts in the fields of trade and clean energy. They hold significant potential for future cooperation and concretize key collaboration pillars within the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established during the visit of Party General Secretary To Lam.

The signing of these MoUs marks an important milestone in the Ministry of Industry and Trade’s cooperation with the UK partner ministries. It is expected to promote the effective implementation of existing cooperation frameworks, realize the commitments reflected in the Joint Statement on the upgraded Comprehensive Partnership, and contribute positively to the economic development of both countries.

On the sidelines of the event, Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long held working sessions with Rachel Kyte, the UK Climate Envoy, and Chris Taylor, the UK JETP Envoy. The two sides discussed in detail areas of cooperation, including the successful signing of the Clean Energy Cooperation MoU, the implementation of 11 UK JETP projects in Vietnam, and future directions for collaboration.

Rachel Kyte and Chris Taylor expressed interest in the deployment of GFANZ funding for JETP projects and in addressing existing bottlenecks and challenges.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long noted that Vietnam is taking strong steps to build legal frameworks and remove institutional barriers to facilitate the successful implementation of renewable energy and JETP-related projects.

The UK partners also expressed interest in the joint development of a Center of Excellence for Offshore Wind Power in Vietnam. Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long addressed their concerns and confirmed that the Ministry of Industry and Trade has assigned relevant units to coordinate with the UK side on the implementation of this Center.
