Attracting Hollywood studios to Vietnam

Chairman of the Vietnam National Authority of Tourism (VNAT) Nguyen Trung Khanh said the program aims to attract public attention, further promote Vietnam’s tourism, support the effective cooperation in tourism and cinema between Vietnamese and US agencies, localities, enterprises; and attract Hollywood film studios to Vietnam to produce high-profile films that gain international media attention.

According to representatives of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the VNAT, the main contents of the program include associating tourism promotion with cinema, culture and food; organizing the program effectively and professionally; and boosting business activities between the two countries enterprises in the tourism and media sectors.

Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho An Phong said that in this business trip, the ministry targets to introduce the image of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people, movie backgrounds, tourism… associated with tourism products, culture, and national brands, and focus on connecting Vietnamese and foreign film companies. “Five contracts will be signed on this occasion, in which localities have committed themselves to supporting the US film crews,” Ho An Phong said.

Promoting tourism through cinema

Recognized as one of the attractive and worth-experiencing tourist destinations in Vietnam with rich and diverse natural landscapes and cultural values, Quang Binh Province was surveyed by domestic and foreign film companies to make some outstanding films and music videos, such as “Kong: Skull Island,” “Alone Pt II” by DJ Alan Walker, “The Immortal,” etc.

Director of Quang Binh Department of Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Quy said that promoting tourism and the Vietnamese people through Hollywood blockbusters is one of the most effective methods which can reach hundreds of millions of viewers globally. However, making such specific movies needs a long-term plan with the support of leading businesses that can make influences on the implementation of film projects. The Vietnamese side also needs to create favorable conditions for foreign directors, surveying teams and be ready to support the film crews.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung emphasized that linking cinema and tourism is the right direction and an inevitable trend in promoting tourism. With the strong support of the media, each step in this campaign will be methodical, contributing to the effective promotion of Vietnamese cinema and tourism.

Accordingly, Minister Hung said the promotion work must be done methodically from promoting the traditional cultural beauty, novelties of Vietnam travel that tourists want to experience. A foreign movie filmed in Vietnam will make huge contribution to promoting the Vietnamese land, culture and people.
