Tuyen Quang Province promotes tourism in ethnic minority, mountainous areas

Located in the northern midland and mountainous region, 140km from Hanoi center, Tuyen Quang is home to over 500 historical sites and 16 intangible cultural heritage elements. It is also a cultural convergence point for northern ethnic minorities, known for unique festivals, legends, and folk songs filled with a deep sense of community.

Recently, the provincial Investment Promotion Center, in collaboration with Hanoi, organized a conference aimed at attracting investment in the ethnic minority and mountainous areas of Tuyen Quang in 2024.

At the conference, Tuyen Quang introduced tourism products and services, as well as craft villages of ethnic minority and mountainous areas to domestic and international businesses.

The conference helped promote cooperation in developing tourism products and services, as well as craft villages. Nguyen Tien Hung, Director of the Provincial Investment Promotion Center, said that with its diverse natural and cultural resources, Tuyen Quang has identified tourism as a key economic sector with four distinctive products, namely nature tourism, leisure tourism, cultural-historical tourism, and spiritual-festival tourism.

With favorable soil and climate conditions, Tuyen Quang holds significant advantages for agricultural tourism development, featuring high-quality, safe farm products. The province currently has 248 OCOP (One Commune, One Product) items rated three stars or higher, including the four geographically indicated products of Ham Yen orange, Na Hang Shan Tuyet tea, Na Hang corn wine, and Soi Ha pomelo. Many of these products, created by ethnic minority communities, have been exported to European countries.

Tuyen Quang currently has 121 communes in ethnic minority areas. In recent years, under the National Target Program for Socioeconomic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas, the province has implemented 10 projects and 13 sub-projects, allocating VND2.203 trillion for the implementation of key policies under the program. As a result, 11 communes in area III and 8 communes in area II have completed building new rural areas to be listed among communes in area I. Local people’s living standards have continuously improved.

In the third quarter of 2024, Tuyen Quang welcomed 547,000 tourists, bringing the total number of visitors in the first nine months of 2024 to 2.407 million, equivalent to 88 percent of the annual target, up 5 percent compared to the same period last year. This impressive result reflects the province’s continuous efforts to improve infrastructure, enhance service quality, and organize effective tourism promotion activities. The total revenue from tourism reached VND787 billion in the third quarter, and VND3.058 trillion in the first nine months, marking a year-on-year increase of 14 percent and achieving 85 percent of the annual target.

Pham Thi Hong, Director of Hong Phat Organic Agricultural Cooperative in Tuyen Quang Province’s Chiem Hoa District, emphasized that intensifying trade promotion, developing raw material areas, and investing in high-tech processing facilities to meet export standards are key drivers for the development of ethnic minority areas. However, she noted that the support of local authorities and investors is crucial for Tuyen Quang’s agricultural products to reach consumers both domestically and internationally.

In the coming time, Tuyen Quang will continue to create favorable conditions for investors and businesses to invest in the province. It will establish a bridge between businesses and consumers to promote trade and tourism, striving to make Tuyen Quang an attractive destination in the near future.
