Prime Minister meets Lao General Secretary and President in Vientiane

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung on October 8 paid a courtesy call on Lao General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith in Vientiane as part of his on-going official visit to Laos.

The top Lao leader spoke highly of the close coordination between the two Governments in implementing high-level agreements and the achievements in comprehensive cooperation, particularly in politics, external affairs, national defense, security, economy, trade, investment, culture, education and training, and local-to-local exchanges.

Le, for his part, briefed the host on the outcomes of his talks with Lao Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith, adding that both sides reached consensus on a number of important issues to further deepen Viet Nam-Laos relations and making the bilateral cooperation more substantive and effective in the time ahead.

On this occasion, the two sides signed 11 cooperation documents across various fields.

The Vietnamese Government would closely work with the Lao Government in directing ministries, sectors and localities of both countries to effectively implement high-level agreements, noted the guest.

The two leaders reaffirmed that preserving and nurturing the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion between Viet Nam and Laos remain the consistent policy and a top priority for each country.

They emphasized that this special relationship, built on long-standing ties between the two Parties, States, and peoples, enables both countries to jointly build and share development opportunities.

They vowed to effectively implement measures to promote the bilateral relations and strengthen connectivity by boosting cooperation in trade, investment, energy, infrastructure, logistics, science, and technology.

The two leaders pledged to step up cooperation in culture, education and training, people-to-people exchanges, and local-to-local linkages, thereby strengthening bonds and mutual understanding between the two peoples.

The two sides underlined the need to join hands in successfully organizing activities under the Viet Nam-Laos Year of Solidarity and Friendship to mark the 65th founding anniversary of diplomatic relations between Viet Nam and Laos (September 5, 1962) and the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Viet Nam-Laos Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation (July 18, 1977), along with other important events between the two Parties and States in 2027.

The host and the guest pledged to promote exchanges and consultations on strategic issues amid rapid and complex developments in the region and the world, while stepping up coordination at regional and international forums to help maintain an environment of peace, stability, cooperation, and development.

The same day, the Vietnamese Government leader had a meeting with President of the Lao National Assembly (NA) Sonexay Siphandone.
