Ninh Binh promotes green tourism development

Each person is a disseminator for environmental protection

Ninh Binh is endowed by nature with diverse and unique natural resources and possesses valuable cultural and historical heritage elements, notably Trang An Scenic Landscape Complex, Cuc Phuong National Park, Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve, etc.

With such distinctive potential, Ninh Binh Province has been determined to develop tourism into a key economic sector, with its own brand and image. Accordingly, the province is focusing on developing green and sustainable tourism.

To tap the existing potential and strengths, Ninh Binh Province has established an effective and close cooperation model in developing tourism among the State organs, businesses and local residents. Thereby, visitors coming to Ninh Binh tourist destinations, particularly the Trang An Landscape Complex, or Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve (Gia Vien District) can feel the fresh, waste-free atmosphere and environment. On each boat, the boatman prepares a trash basket and encourages tourists to put trash in the basket for environmental protection.

According to Vu Thi Duoc, Vice Chairman of Gia Vien District People’s Committee, Gia Vien District is strongly shifting from agricultural to industrial and tourism development; and tourism is identified as a balance between agricultural and industrial development to create a green and sustainable environment for the local people. Positive acts of local authority

Ninh Binh has become an indispensable destination for domestic and foreign tourists because of its methodical tourism development approach with a consistent strategy of developing green, sustainable tourism.

To achieve such positive results, in each development stage, the province has adjusted policies and development strategies in line with actual conditions and available resources, in which green tourism is always identified as a priority.

Since 2001 when Ninh Binh Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution No.03-NQ on tourism development until 2010 - the first thematic resolution on tourism development, which has determined the shift from “brown” to “green” development strategy, the province has always paid special attention to investment in and preservation of natural landscapes and historical relics like Trang An eco-tourism area, Tam Coc-Bich Dong tourist area, Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve, Cuc Phuong National Park, etc. to the maximum extent to serve tourism.

It also associates the preservation of nature reserves, historical-cultural relics, scenic spots with promoting the value of these works and sites, especially with the four Natural Reserves: Cuc Phuong National Park; Van Long Wetland Nature Reserve; Hoa Lu Special-use Forest; and Red River Delta Biosphere Reserve.

Leaders of Ninh Binh Department of Tourism said that currently Ninh Binh continues to promote communications to raise awareness of people and businesses of preserving and protecting the environment. They are also very interested in directing, and orienting tourism development associated with green tourism; turning tourism development into a key economic sector, as one of three strategic breakthroughs in the province’s economic restructuring.
