In recent years, the Party and the State have introduced a range of important policies and mechanisms related to the energy sector. Notably, Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW dated August 20, 2025, issued by the Politburo on ensuring national energy security through 2030 with a vision to 2045, clearly underscores the need to encourage investment in and the use of energy in an efficient and economical manner, reduce emissions, and protect the environment. This is not only an urgent requirement but also a right and a moral responsibility of every individual and organization toward future generations.

Amid geopolitical volatility in the Middle East and mounting pressures on energy supply, energy conservation has become an imperative dictated by reality. Most recently, the Prime Minister issued Directive No. 10/CT-TTg dated March 30, 2026, on strengthening electricity-saving measures and promoting rooftop solar power development, along with Dispatch No. 27/CĐ-TTg dated March 31, 2026, directing ministries and localities to accelerate the development of electric vehicle charging infrastructure in residential buildings. The rollout of the E10 biofuel roadmap in April further demonstrates Vietnam’s political commitment to fulfilling its international environmental obligations while easing pressure on conventional fuel supplies.

The 2026 Earth Hour campaign conveyed the message “Green Innovation - Green Future.” However, energy conservation cannot succeed if confined to policy documents or laboratories; it must evolve into a daily habit and a cultural norm in every household and production facility. To achieve this, few tools are as powerful and far-reaching as the press and television.

The Media Awards on Promoting Energy Efficiency and Conservation is a key communication activity under the National Program on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for the 2019–2030 period (VNEEP). The awards aim to raise public awareness and responsibility regarding efficient energy use, while honoring outstanding journalists and exemplary works at both central and local levels.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hoang Long emphasized that the press plays a vital role in bringing major policies to life. “The media serves not only as a bridge for information dissemination, but also as a force that shapes public awareness, spreads positive values, identifies effective models and best practices, and drives behavioral change across society,” he said.

He added that the awards are intended to further promote the pioneering role of the press in this field, thereby enhancing public awareness, encouraging tangible action, and gradually fostering a culture of energy efficiency within the community.

This year marks the 15th edition of the awards. Over the years, the program has attracted a large number of high-quality journalistic works that promptly reflect the Party’s and the State’s policies, while showcasing practical models, initiatives, and effective solutions. Many entries have generated positive social impact, helping to bring the issue of energy efficiency and conservation into broader public focus.

The 2026 awards continue to be organized with a renewed spirit, closely aligned with real-world developments and the evolving demands of the new development phase. The topic offers a rich and timely field for journalistic exploration, ranging from electricity-saving practices in production and daily life, efficient energy use, clean energy development, to green transition and sustainable consumption behavior.

“Through this year’s awards, we hope to further encourage journalists, reporters, and editors to pay greater attention to energy efficiency and conservation, producing more in-depth, persuasive, and impactful works. We also call on ministries, sectors, local authorities, enterprises, and relevant organizations to continue working closely with the media, proactively providing information and sharing models, and facilitating journalistic activities. This will help ensure that policies on energy efficiency and conservation are communicated in a timely, clear, and effective manner,” the Deputy Minister stressed.

Entries in the latter category may be published on online newspapers or official social media platforms of organizations.

Eligible journalistic works must be published between September 2, 2025, and September 10, 2026, on licensed mass media outlets.
