Against a backdrop of ongoing global uncertainties, the MoIT has focused on implementing synchronized measures to ensure energy security, promote industrial production, develop the domestic market, and expand exports. Many key indicators recorded encouraging results, with exports remaining a bright spot, industrial production sustaining its recovery trend, and domestic trade and consumption activities showing positive developments.
According to the Ministry, close coordination has been maintained with the Ministry of Finance, other ministries and agencies, and businesses to largely ensure adequate supplies of petroleum products and electricity for the economy.
Regarding the sector’s growth targets assigned for 2026, as of the end of May, among the eight growth indicators assigned by the Government, two had exceeded their targets (exports and reserve generation capacity ratio), two had met their targets (total electricity generation and imports of the national power system, and e-commerce), while four had yet to reach the set goals, including the Index of Industrial Production (IIP), total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue, and power generation capacity. These results indicate that significant pressure remains in achieving the sector’s growth objectives in the remaining months of the year, requiring even more decisive management and policy measures.
Industrial production continued to recover, with the IIP in May increasing by 8.8% year-on-year. For the first five months, the index rose by 9.1%, representing the highest growth rate recorded during the same period since 2021. Notably, the processing and manufacturing sector expanded by 9.5% during the period.
However, industrial growth remained uneven across localities, with as many as 18 out of 34 provinces and centrally governed cities recording growth rates below the national target, including major economic centers such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Looking ahead, the MoIT will continue prioritizing the improvement of mechanisms and policies, supporting businesses in overcoming challenges, promoting production and business activities, developing the domestic market, expanding export markets, ensuring energy security, and striving to fulfill the growth targets set for 2026.

Representatives from the Ministry’s departments and agencies noted that, alongside its own efforts, the industry and trade sector has benefited from the support and cooperation of central ministries, agencies, mass organizations, and local authorities. Among these, media and press organizations nationwide, particularly major news outlets have played an especially important role.

Key priorities in the period ahead include implementing major government programs, particularly strategic energy infrastructure projects.
Regarding information coordination, the Deputy Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to proactively providing timely and accurate information to the press.
