The Michelin Guide will reveal its first-ever global hotel key selection on October 8, 2025, marking a major step in its expansion into the hospitality space. The announcement will take place online and at an exclusive ceremony at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, a venue that reflects timeless design and culture.
Following the successful rollout of Michelin Keys in 15 top travel destinations in 2024 and early 2025, this global selection will highlight the most outstanding hotels worldwide. It establishes a new international standard of excellence in hospitality, similar to the Michelin Stars long associated with fine dining. Travelers will benefit from a more seamless experience as the Guide integrates its trusted distinctions with direct booking services.
The Michelin Key distinction is awarded at three levels. One Key signifies a very special stay, where the hotel offers charm, character, and exceptional service that exceeds expectations. Two Keys denote an exceptional stay, with unique design, a strong sense of place, and genuine care from the team.
Three Keys represent an extraordinary stay - hotels that are destinations in themselves, offering world-class comfort, style, and unforgettable service. These distinctions are based on five universal criteria assessed by Michelin inspectors, who evaluate each property anonymously.
To date, more than 1.500 hotels have been honored through regional key selections. The upcoming global list will reflect the best of international hospitality, with inspectors currently finalizing the selection.
In addition to the keys, the Michelin Guide will introduce four new special awards. The Michelin Architecture & Design Award will recognize hotels with inspiring architecture and aesthetic identity. The Michelin Wellness Award will celebrate properties with innovative and holistic wellness programs. The Michelin Local Gateway Award will highlight hotels offering deep, immersive connections to their surroundings. The Michelin Opening of the Year Award will honor newly opened hotels that have made a significant impact within their first year.
Each award will go to one winning hotel, with nominees to be revealed in advance across the Guide’s digital channels. The shortlist for the Architecture & Design Award will be announced on August 13, followed by the Wellness Award on August 27, the Local Gateway Award on September 10, and the Opening of the Year Award on September 24.
The 2025 Michelin Guide hotels ceremony will gather around 300 hoteliers from awarded properties, special award winners, journalists, and hospitality leaders. Designed as an immersive and celebratory event, the evening will honor innovation, cultural richness, and excellence in global hospitality.
