Vietnam to turn tourism into truly spearhead economic sector

(VEN) - According to the Vietnam Tourism Association, Vietnam’s tourism sector aims to welcome 25 to 28 million international visitors and 130 million domestic tourists by 2025, contributing 8 to 9 percent of GDP.

According to Vietnam’s tourism strategy by 2030, tourism is expected to become a truly spearhead economic sector, with sustainable and inclusive development on the basis of green growth. Vietnam will become a particularly attractive destination and one of 30 countries in the world with the best tourism competitiveness, fully meeting the requirements and goals of sustainable development.

Vietnam’s tourism sector welcomed more than 17.5 million international tourists in 2024, a year-on-year increase of 38.9%

To achieve these goals, the Vietnam Tourism Association believes that it requires a very important role of the State management agency. The tourism industry needs to design green infrastructure towards prosperity and sustainability based on the criteria of the LEED certificate, build construction works and infrastructure using low-emission, energy-efficient, environmentally-friendly materials. Technical facilities should meet the requirements concerning the following 4 factors: convenience, aesthetics, hygiene, safety to attract tourists.

In addition, the factors that create attractive destinations for Vietnamese tourism are unique landscapes, indigenous culture and smart technology... This requires synchronization from State management agencies to businesses and local communities.

Tourism businesses also believe that to build a tourism brand, it is necessary to tell true and fascinating stories about products, at the same time develop a common promotional strategy between the tourism and aviation sectors.

On the other hand, as Vietnam has a lot of potential to exploit tourism, experts proposed that the sector create a system of unique products and effectively promote the national tourism brand.

A representative from the Faculty of Tourism at Hanoi University of Culture said that in the current context of the country’s economic development, it is necessary to improve infrastructure, technical facilities to stimulate tourism demand through the development of transportation, especially by roads and by air.

Statistics show that in 2024, the number of international tourists to Vietnam was estimated at 17.5 million; up 38.9% compared with 2023.

In order to help Vietnam’s tourism sector attract more international tourists, experts said that in the coming time, tourism businesses need to access information from markets and partners.
