American investors have established a presence across 18 out of 21 sectors in Vietnam’s economy. Investment has been concentrated in accommodation and food services, followed by manufacturing and processing industries. Other significant areas include water supply and waste treatment, real estate business, and transportation and logistics.
The Foreign Investment Agency also reported a notable uptick in US investment activity. In the first four months of 2025, American firms launched 42 new FDI projects, adjusted capital for 12 existing ones, and contributed capital or acquired shares in 44 ventures. Altogether, nearly $200 million in new FDI from the U.S. flowed into Vietnam during this period.
Economists predict that US FDI in Vietnam is poised for a breakthrough. This forecast is bolstered by a wave of interest from leading American corporations such as Meta, Intel, NVIDIA, and Apple, many of which are increasingly shifting their manufacturing and business operations to Vietnam.
During a recent meeting with the National Innovation Center (NIC), Molly Montgomery, Director of Public Policy for the US market at Meta DC, emphasized Vietnam’s growing strategic importance to the company. “Vietnam is a key market for Meta, and it’s becoming even more vital as many manufacturing operations relocate here,” she said.
Montgomery also praised the Vietnamese government’s ongoing efforts to improve the investment and business environment. She highlighted the importance of stable and consistent investment policies as a critical factor in attracting more foreign investors, including those from the United States.
Echoing this sentiment, Dao Thanh Huong, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Investment Agency, noted that Vietnam has already welcomed a significant number of high-profile US investors. “With names like Intel, Apple, NVIDIA, and Meta, the strong presence of American businesses underscores the credibility and stability of Vietnam’s investment policies,” she said.
According to the Ministry of Finance, Vietnam currently has 252 investment projects in the United States, with total capital reaching $1.36 billion. These projects are primarily concentrated in professional, scientific, and technological services; real estate; and manufacturing industries. |
