On November 23, on the occasion of the Vietnam Heritage Day, the Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities launched the digital heritage experience “Vietnam’s Marvelous History.”
“Vietnam’s Marvelous History” is an application combining augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI), marking a breakthrough in using modern technology to preserve and promote heritage at this special national relic.

The AR exhibit of exam candidates vividly portrays the solemn yet emotionally charged atmosphere of students on their journey through the imperial exams.
The comprehensive AR technology offers a new experience for both domestic and international visitors to Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam. By “bringing history to life” within the real-world space, the technology transforms visitors from passive observers into active participants, allowing them to directly engage with cultural heritage values and offering a more modern, appealing way to approach history.
The integration of traditional heritage with digital technology not only breathes new life into heritage tourism but also particularly attracts younger generations, diversifies digital experiences, promotes the relic, and contributes to the development of Hanoi’s cultural industry.

The AR exhibit of the royal commendation recreates the grand procession of newly conferred doctors returning to their village in a traditional victory ceremony.
Truong Quoc Toan, Assistant Director of the Hanoi - Île-de-France Urban Development Cooperation Project, noted that for a heritage site as significant as Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam, leveraging its value in the physical space always faces certain limitations. “Those limitations are overcome through digital space. The combination of AR and AI has created a connection, a ‘cross-century, cross-generation’ resonance,” he said.

The AR village school exhibit simulates a traditional educational setting, showcasing the teaching methods of the past.
Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities, emphasized that the center collaborated with BSM Labs to implement AR technology to “bring history to life.”
“The harmonious integration of traditional values and modern technology promises a fresh approach to heritage tourism in Vietnam, particularly engaging the younger generation, the future custodians and promoters of the nation’s cultural heritage,” he underlined.
