Traffic diversion for vehicles on Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Expressway

Temporary traffic arrangements on the Km239+800 to Km242+900 segment will begin from December 6

Director of the Department for Roads of Vietnam (DRVN) approved adjustments to the temporary traffic arrangement for the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Expressway (from Km239+800 to Km242+900) to ensure safety during the construction of the overpass at Liem Son Interchange in Ha Nam Province.

According to VEC’s announcement, starting on December 6, vehicles traveling on the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Expressway in the direction of Liem Tuyen - Cao Bo will need to exit and turn right at Km239+800 onto a side road (part of the Liem Son Interchange construction project) and rejoin the main expressway at Km242+220 to continue toward the Cao Bo Interchange.

Vehicles traveling from Cao Bo to Liem Tuyen will need to exit at Km242+900 onto a side road and rejoin the main Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Expressway at Km240+500 to continue toward the Liem Tuyen Interchange.

Speed limits and safety regulations

The maximum permitted speed on the side road (from Km239+800 to Km242+900) is 60 km/h.

Vehicles must gradually reduce speed before entering the side road and increase speed gradually when rejoining the main expressway.

VEC stated that during the temporary traffic arrangement, the operation of the expressway may be affected. Vehicles encountering incidents or unusual situations can contact the hotline 19001838 for timely assistance and resolution.

The 50km, 4-lane long Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Expressway was built at a total cost of more than VND8.9 trillion and has become operational since July 2021. The expressway has two emergency stopping lanes. The maximum speed limit is 120 km/h.

In 2023, the expressway served over 21 million vehicles, up 7% from 2022, making it the busiest of the four expressways managed by VEC.

Expansion plans

The Ministry of Transport has noted a significant increase in traffic volume on the Cau Gie - Ninh Binh Expressway over the past 10 years, particularly after the Cao Bo - Dien Chau section (part of the North-South Expressway Phase 1) was open to public. VEC is researching and proposing to expand the expressway from 4 lanes to 6-8 lanes./.
