Promoting green distribution through reducing plastic waste
Over the past years, TH True Milk has consistently implemented green, circular economic model for all member units and has obtained remarkable achievements in all fields of production, clean energy, biodiversity conservation, land resource management, waste and wastewater treatment, and solutions to reduce plastic waste.
Hoang Thi Thanh Thuy, Head of the Coordination Committee for Sustainable Development at TH Group revealed that the group’s entire activities are directed in line with the “responsible sustainable production and consumption” motto. Accordingly, TH True Milk has built a specific development strategy, covering pillars such as nutrition, health, community, education, and animal welfare, of which environment plays a central role in the group’s sustainable development strategy. “Particularly for plastic waste, we have provided specific solutions like replacing plastic bags and disposable plastic straws with biological ones,” said Thuy.
In May 2018, the system of TH true mart stores nationwide stopped using plastic bags. Instead, TH true mart uses product bags made from environmentally friendly bioplastic materials.
The group has also launched programs to collect milk cartons for recycling, and encouraged customers to reduce waste and spread a green lifestyle.

In October 2019, the group pioneered milk straws made from environmentally friendly materials - plant materials such as corn, cassava, and sugarcane.
In October 2020, the group officially sold canvas bags at TH true mart stores nationwide hoping that customers would have more choices about a useful, high-quality solution for a sustainable future.
In February 2021, the group stopped using plastic shrink film for bottle caps for its pure water product TH true WATER 350ml. This is the first step in the process of removing the bottle cap plastic shrink film from all TH true WATER pure water products.
From June 2022, thanks to cutting plastic spoons for yogurt use by 50 percent (targeting 100 percent in the future), the group can reduce 260 tonnes of plastic discharged into the environment every year. In the coming time, the group will launch communications campaigns for consumers to understand the meaning and goals of the environmental campaign.
TH true Milk also responded actively to government programs in environmental protection communications activities like: the World Environment Day, Action Month for Environment, World Oceans Day...
In addition, the group has implemented “long-term” policies and strategies for sustainable development, like establishing the Packaging Recycling Organization of Vietnam (PRO Vietnam), or joining the Vietnam Business Alliance for Environment (VB4E).
Bagasse for electricity generation
For many years now, 100 percent of the electricity used for all activities at NASU factory - a member of TH Group is generated by itself.
At NASU, electricity generation technology using bagasse has been integrated into the production process. Bagasse is used as fuel for steam production. High-pressure steam from this process will rotate the turbine and generate electricity to meet the needs of the plant.
Not only bagasse, sludge and emissions from the production process are also used to generate electricity. NASU reuses waste and byproducts under the motto “Waste is a resource” and also applies other models to green its production process and protect the environment.
