This is an annual special cultural event to welcome the New Year. It honors cultural, historical and intellectual values through 100 works of the Vietnamese traditional Nom script and Latin letters. A fresh Ho Van space is expected to become a creative space of the relic and bring memorable experiences to visitors. According to Le Xuan Kieu, Director of the Center for Cultural and Scientific Activities at the Temple of Literature, this year’s event is a meeting place for traditional cultural values and the breath of contemporary life, arousing national pride, the desire for learning and creativity of the young generation and connecting families in a new spring full of hope.
The festival features a renovated Ho Van and many activities taking place at the Ho Van space. The green, clean and beautiful Ho Van brings a spacious and safe space, contributing to enhancing visitors’ experiences in their cultural discovery journeys.

In particular, many cultural activities will take place at the Ho Van space to serve visitors, including 3 exhibitions: The calligraphy exhibition entitled “Practical Education” will feature 100 calligraphy works in the ancient Vietnamese traditional Nom script and Latin letters. The works introduce literary and poetic works about Thang Long - Hanoi and the quintessence of ancient knowledge to honor the tradition of studiousness, respect for teachers and for knowledge of the Vietnamese people. The photo exhibition “Vietnam - My Homeland” will showcase 50 captivating heritage photographs selected from the Vietnam Heritage Photo Awards 2012-2018. The photos capture impressive moments about cultural heritage, nature and people of Vietnam. Meanwhile, the exhibition “Drawing a Snake” offers a unique exploration of the snake, the zodiac animal for the upcoming Lunar New Year, through the lens of tradition and modernity. Visitors will see 77 illustrations by 75 Vietnamese artists from around the world celebrating the spirit of this symbolic creature.
Inside the temple, visitors can also enjoy “Old Traces of Culture 3: Thien Quang” photo exhibition in the front hall of Thai Hoc House, which showcases the ancient trades of Thang Long (the old name of Hanoi) and highlights the enduring importance of knowledge and culture throughout Vietnam’s history. In addition, “Storytelling Steles 2” at the Doctorate Steles House provides a fascinating look at the 82 doctorate steles and their role in Vietnam’s educational heritage. These exhibitions continue to highlight the historical, cultural and artistic values of the Temple of Literature - First National University (Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam).
In addition, the Spring Calligraphy Festival is attractive to visitors with 47 skilled calligraphers showcasing their artistry, along with many unique cultural programs, including a heritage education program and a reading culture room; an exhibition of traditional village handicrafts; folk games; lion dance; traditional music and dance performances, including Quan Ho, Ca Tru, and Cheo, among many others at the Interior area, Giam garden and Ho Van.
