Spreading energy-saving habits toward sustainable development

EVNSPC rolled out Earth Hour 2026 activities from early March, promoting energy-saving habits and supporting energy security and sustainable development.

Diverse activities to reshape public awareness

From the beginning of March 2026, the Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) and its member units simultaneously launched a series of activities under the campaign “All people use energy efficiently and economically,” in conjunction with Earth Hour 2026. These programs have been implemented in diverse and flexible formats, attracting widespread participation from employees, youth union members, and the public.

Among the most notable initiatives were nationwide ceremonies calling for energy conservation, organized across multiple localities and creating strong momentum from the outset. Beyond movement-based activities, EVNSPC has focused on designing highly interactive programs aimed at transforming public awareness and electricity consumption behavior.

Running events not only promoted public health but also served as creative communication channels, bringing the message of energy conservation closer to citizens, particularly younger generations. In parallel, an online competition on safe, economical, and efficient electricity use attracted significant participation from workers and customers, generating widespread engagement.

In another initiative, the Tan Tru Power Unit (under Tay Ninh Power Company), in coordination with the local Youth Union, organized a cycling campaign to promote Earth Hour 2026, drawing numerous officials, youth members, and more than 100 students.

Alongside these activities, EVNSPC has placed strong emphasis on extensive public communication. At the local level, power companies have worked with schools to integrate energy-saving content into weekly assemblies, helping students gain early awareness of efficient energy use and fostering responsible habits from a young age.

At the same time, through close coordination with grassroots authorities, energy-saving messages have been disseminated to residential communities via public loudspeaker systems, neighborhood meetings, and self-governing groups. This approach has brought information closer to residents, particularly in rural areas, contributing to more rational and efficient electricity use.

In alignment with sustainable development goals, EVNSPC has implemented various practical projects, including rooftop solar systems under the “Green Energy - Lighting Dreams for Schools” initiative, rural lighting systems powered by renewable energy, and tree-planting programs across multiple localities. These models not only deliver economic benefits but also help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect the environment, and improve quality of life.

Amid increasingly complex global developments in politics, economics, and energy security, especially risks of disruptions to oil, gas, and coal supplies the efficient and economical use of energy has become more urgent than ever. This is a crucial solution to easing pressure on the power system, reducing production costs, and enhancing the competitiveness of the economy.

Spreading the message of green living for a sustainable future

A key highlight of the campaign was the Earth Hour event held on the evening of March 28 in Vinh Long province, under the theme “Green Innovation - Green Future.” The event drew participation from provincial leaders, departments, agencies, and a large number of residents, creating a vibrant atmosphere and strong momentum for energy conservation.

At the event, Bui Quoc Hoan, Deputy Director of EVNSPC, affirmed the corporation’s commitment to ensuring safe and reliable electricity supply to support socio-economic development and daily life. He also called on customers to adopt practical energy-saving measures, such as installing rooftop solar systems, setting air conditioners at 26 - 27°C, and turning off electrical devices when not in use.

He emphasized that the active involvement of authorities and citizens is essential to achieving sustainable outcomes in energy-saving programs. Small daily actions, if maintained consistently, can form positive habits that contribute to environmental protection and resource conservation.

From the perspective of local authorities, Nguyen Quynh Thien, Vice Chairman of the Vinh Long Provincial People’s Committee, noted that climate change is becoming increasingly evident, requiring the collective efforts of society. Participation in Earth Hour, he stressed, should go beyond switching off lights for one hour and evolve into a long-term, sustainable green lifestyle.

As part of the program, the organizing committee presented 260 solar-powered lamps, 260 trees, and 5,000 notebooks to local students. These activities help raise awareness among younger generations while encouraging the use of renewable energy in daily life.

On the same day, March 28, provinces and cities including Can Tho, Dong Thap, An Giang, Ca Mau, Dong Nai, Lam Dong, and Tay Ninh also simultaneously organized various activities in response to the campaign.

Notably, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. on March 28, a large number of residents, agencies, organizations, and businesses turned off unnecessary electrical devices, creating a powerful ripple effect across society.

Through sustained and coordinated efforts, EVNSPC has not only ensured stable electricity supply but also taken a leading role in promoting efficient energy use, thereby making an important contribution to safeguarding national energy security and advancing sustainable development goals.
