MoIT leader works with Food Industry Institute

Ha Noi, Aug 29 - Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien held a working session with the Food Industry Institute.

Opening the meeting, Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien emphasized the significance of the session, which gathered Ministry leaders, technical departments, and scientific experts to review the institute’s recent performance, address ongoing challenges, and propose strategic solutions moving forward.

"The goal is to identify weaknesses and root causes limiting operational efficiency, in order to develop comprehensive solutions that will contribute to boosting agricultural exports this year and in the years to come", Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien stated.

Established under Prime Ministerial Decision No. 112/CP dated July 21, 1967, the Food Industry Institute originated from the former Institute of Light Industry and Food. It is headquartered at 301 Nguyen Trai Street in Hanoi, with a southern branch located at 58 Nguyen Binh Khiem Street, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City.

Over more than five decades, the Institute has operated under multiple ministries, including the Ministry of Light Industry, Ministry of Food and Foodstuff, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, and the Ministry of Industry. Since 2008, it has been under the management of the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

As a scientific and technological organization, the Institute plays a key role in policy development, planning, and standard-setting for the food processing sector. It also conducts research, development, and technology transfer to serve industrial production and private sector demand. Additional functions include product inspection, quality control, and food safety assessments for raw materials, semi-finished and finished goods, production lines, machinery, and equipment.

The Institute also engages in the production and commercial distribution of biological products (excluding medical-grade items), chemicals, and equipment used in the food processing industry. Its portfolio includes food and beverage products, food additives, functional foods, vegetable oils, natural flavors, and testing kits applicable in food processing, animal feed production, and consumer markets.
