MM Mega Market Vietnam achieves the Green Business award

MM Mega Market Vietnam (MMVN) was one of the retailers honored at the 2024 Green Business award ceremony organized by the Ho Chi Minh City Business Association (HUBA) in collaboration with Sai Gon Giai Phong Newspaper.

The Ho Chi Minh City Green Business is an annual event to honor and reward businesses for their achievements in sustainability, such as waste treatment innovations, green products, and sustainable development strategies towards a green and circular economy in Vietnam. The event is also part of the 5th City Economic Forum taking place from September 24-27, 2024, under the theme “Industrial transformation, a new driving force for sustainable development in Ho Chi Minh City.”

2024 marks the second consecutive year that MM Mega Market Vietnam has achieved this meaningful title.

Recently, MMVN has published the 2023 Sustainability Report, reaching another milestone on the journey ahead the net-zero emissions. MMVN is making steady progress in “greening” its distribution system and supply chain nationwide.

In 2023, 13 MMVN stores nationwide applied solar rooftop energy, producing more than 5.5 million kWh of electricity. In addition, the light amplification system with light pipes and energy-saving LED lighting also contributes to reducing 9,748 tons of CO2 equivalent to the environment.

In addition, as a member of the Alliance to Reduce Plastic Bag Consumption in 2022, MMVN contributes to changing customer behavior in reducing plastic waste by proactively stopping the distribution of plastic bags. Instead, MMVN encourages customers to use reusable bags and biodegradable bags that do not leave microplastics. Through these actions, MM has reduced an average of 10 million plastic bags waste per year into the environment.

MM Mega Market also works closely with partners to develop a comprehensive sorting and recycling model, aiming to increase recycling rates and reduce the exploitation of natural resources. Waste will be sorted at MMVN stores, and then transported to different recycling points. In recent years, MMVN has strongly accompanied the Vietnam Recycling Organization to build an electronic waste collection station, joined hands with UBC - Tetra Pak for paper boxes, TBC-Ball for aluminium cans with the program “Thu lon cu – Nhan qua moi”, as well as developed a plastic bottle recycling point with 2 partners, Alta and Aquafina.
