At the meeting, the two Ministers reviewed recent developments in bilateral economic and trade cooperation between Vietnam and China, and agreed to further strengthen coordination amid complex regional and global economic conditions.
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien informed his counterpart that Vietnam is finalizing domestic procedures to sign the Protocol on Upgrading the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA 3.0) as planned. He affirmed that Vietnam will continue to work closely with ASEAN member states and China to ensure effective implementation of ACFTA 3.0, bringing tangible benefits to businesses and citizens.

Minister Nguyen Hong Dien has a working session with Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit taking place in Malaysia.
China remains one of Vietnam’s top trading partners, a key export market, and a major source of materials and equipment for industrial production. In 2024, bilateral trade reached a record USD 205.2 billion, making China Vietnam’s largest trading partner for many consecutive years.
According to the Vietnam Trade Office in China, Vietnam’s exports to China in the first eight months of 2025 grew by 9.2%, up from 7.1% in the previous seven months. In August alone, exports surged by 22% year-on-year.

During the working session, Minister Nguyen Hong Dien announces that Vietnam is preparing to complete domestic procedures to sign the Protocol to upgrade the ASEAN - China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA 3.0).
Vietnam’s major export products to China include agricultural goods such as rice, coffee, cashew nuts, fruits, and seafood, as well as electronic components, textiles, rubber, and crude oil. Notably, Vietnamese agricultural products have a strong foothold in the Chinese market, benefiting from geographic proximity and growing consumer demand. Products such as durian, dragon fruit, mango, and passion fruit continue to post robust growth through late 2025.
Meanwhile, Vietnam mainly imports from China machinery, industrial equipment, raw materials, consumer goods, and electronic components. The diversity of trade structures allows both countries to capitalize on their comparative advantages, contributing to shared economic growth.
Minister Nguyen Hong Dien, leading the Ministry of Industry and Trade delegation accompanying Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh at the 47th ASEAN Summit, also held several bilateral meetings with key partners to further strengthen Vietnam’s trade and investment cooperation in the region.
