The widespread of green transformation

On March 18, Imexpharm Pharmaceutical Joint Stock Company together with the People's Committee of Nha Trang City planted trees along Ring Road 2 in Nha Trang city. This is an activity to demonstrate IMP's social responsibility in joining hands with localities to protect the environment and bring healthier lives to people. Accordingly, IMP's Board of Directors, staff, sales and marketing team took part in planting 500 trees along Ring Road 2 and collecting trash along Nha Trang beach. This activity is a part of the program "Nurturing Green Seeds - Drawing the Future" launched by Nha Trang city in response to the plan of planting 1 billion trees in the period 2021-2025.

“We hope to contribute a small green area to Nha Trang city, one of the coastal cities that has been greatly affected by global climate change. The activities of businesses like IMP are known as an ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) approach with the goal of sustainable development especially when the pharmaceutical industry has a great impact on the community. In particular, the impact of green transformation is spreading in the pharmaceutical industry around the world, changing the way of production and marketing of products. Previously, there were many growing concerns in this important industry including climate change, access to drugs, drug pricing, increasing in smoke emissions and medical waste... In that context, ESG has emerged as a mandatory trend for pharmaceutical businesses to control these factors.

Taking advantage of ESG, IMP always maintains investment in environmental protection activities, sustainable development in production and management practices to enter a new growth cycle with firm foundation by owning four factory clusters three of which possess 11 production lines meeting EU-GMP standards. This standard has strict requirements on all aspects of the product manufacturing process. For example, products with European Visa and group 1 bidding require raw materials to meet CEP (Certificate of Suitability to the Monographs of the European Pharmacopoeia) standards. This requires that raw materials be thoroughly evaluated before being registered with the Ministry of Health and put into production.

These standards also require IMP factories to reduce energy consumption as well as water resource use and focus on waste treatment. For example, in 2022, the total amount of CO2 emissions from using electricity in production activities accounted for 8,896 tons of CO2, dropping to 5% over the same period last year. Notably, the number of emissions from IMP3 plant was the lowest. At the IMP2 and IMP3 factories, Imexpharm also built an initial wastewater treatment system according to European standards.

The sweet fruits of sustainable investment have helped IMP overcome common difficulties and achieve many impressive results in recent years. By the end of 2023, the company's total gross revenue has reached VND 2,113 billion, growing by 26% compared to the overall market growth rate of about 8%. At the same time, the company also accelerated the expansion of production capacity according to international standards and increased the ability to produce new, technically difficult generics drugs to promote the competitiveness of domestic drugs with other imported products of the same type.

"When developing a priority action plan on ESG, IMP chose the GRI Standards and the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals as a reference to identify the crucial issues and action plans. By pursuing these values, we aim to bring the highest possible values to our stakeholders, ensure sustainable growth and make a strong contribution to the development of the national economy. For the pharmaceutical industry, this is also an orientation to help Vietnam achieve its goal of becoming a high-value pharmaceutical production center in the region by 2030," said IMP General Director.
