Hai Duong onions, garlic honored as Vietnamese Agricultural Golden Brand

(VEN) - Onions and garlic products in Kinh Mon Town of Hai Duong Province have just been honored as Vietnamese Agricultural Golden Brand.

This information was announced at the “Golden Brand of Vietnamese Agriculture 2024” program recently organized by the Vietnam General Association of Agriculture and Rural Development in Hanoi.

The program is held annually nationwide. Since 2015, the program has received the support of ministries and sectors and active participation of many businesses across the country, thereby enhancing the brand value of many Vietnamese agricultural products in the market and better promoting products of localities and businesses to consumers.

In particular, these products have brought great revenues for businesses and farmers, contributing to the successful implementation of the National Target Program on New Rural Development and Sustainable Poverty Reduction of localities.

A representative of Kinh Mon Town People’s Committee said that onions and garlic are the main crops, accounting for 90 percent of the town’s total winter crop area, of which the area for growing onions are about 3,900 hectares, and for garlics about 150 hectares out of a total of 4,400 hectares of winter crops in the town. They are grown mostly in Nam An Phu area, some communes in Bac An Phu area and Tam Luu area. The annual output of fresh onions in Kinh Mon is estimated at about 100,000 tonnes, fresh garlics is about 4,000 tonnes, with a total annual value of about VND1.5 trillion.

Kinh Mon onions and garlics have large, firm bulbs, with special spicy aroma that is different from other growing areas. Until now, the products have been widely sold in traditional markets across the country, and become a familiar spice in daily meals of the Vietnamese people. In recent years, Kinh Mon onions and garlics have been sold in large supermarket chains such as Go!, Win Mart and e-commerce platforms...

In addition, Kinh Mon onions and garlic have also met the standards of many large, demanding markets, and helped boost the development of many other industries such as preliminary processing of raw products, or deep processing of the products into food... especially promoting the start-up movement, and creating many value-added OCOP products.
