“Running a fuel station is no longer the lucrative business as it was 10-15 years ago. With low commissions, selling 1,000 liters of petrol only brings in a few hundred thousand dong in profit. It’s like investing billions just to make small change,” said Nguyen Van Bao, owner of a private filling station in Hai Duong Province.

Deciding to pivot in search of a more promising business direction, Bao took notice of V-GREEN’s franchised charging station model. Participating in this model, he only needed to invest in a location and install a charging station to serve VinFast electric motorcycle and car owners. More importantly, the model’s potential is significant as the number of electric vehicles (EVs) continues to grow.

“In the area where I live, many EVs pass by. The space I own can accommodate about 10 charging stations with 20 charging ports. If each port serves just four VinFast VF8 vehicles per day, I could generate nearly VND5 million per day, which amounts to VND1.8 billion in annual revenue,” Bao calculated, believing that partnering with V-GREEN could provide impressive passive income and help him quickly recoup his investment.

Also facing difficulties with fuel sales and having registered to join V-GREEN, Nguyen Hong Hanh, owner of a filling station in Ninh Binh Province, shared that in addition to the revenue from electric charging, she will also open a food and beverage shop and a mini-mart at the filling station to serve customers coming to charge their EVs.

“Customers coming to refuel their vehicles would usually only buy bottled water. But those using the charging stations can enjoy food and beverage services and shop while waiting for their vehicles to charge,” Hanh explained.

It is predicted that 300,000 electric cars and one million electric motorcycles will have been present in the Vietnamese market by 2025. As EVs are becoming increasingly popular, the number of potential customers using the charging station network will be high, ensuring high revenue from charging stations and additional services for V-GREEN’s franchise partners.

Partnering with giants for long-term cooperation

According to many filling station owners, stable revenue and comprehensive support from a reputable company in Vietnam are the main attractions of V-GREEN’s charging station franchise model.

“Under this model, charging station owners are fully supported in terms of operational management technology, revenue and expense management, maintenance, and marketing to attract customers. Getting ahead of the curve will help them secure loyal customers,” said Nguyen Thanh Hai, owner of a filling station in Nghe An Province, highlighting the benefits of V-GREEN’s franchise model.

Long-term investment commitments make Ly Van Thien, owner of a filling station in Hai Phong City, feel reassured in this partnership. “The revenue share is at a good level, and there is a commitment to compensation if V-GREEN ceases operations before the 10-year commitment, so I can confidently proceed with green transition,” Thien said. He believes that partnering with a giant is a guarantee in this cooperation, as V-GREEN is a global charging station development company founded by billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong, the Chairman of Vingroup - a pioneer in green transition in Vietnam.

Currently, the company owns the largest network of electric car and motorcycle charging stations in Vietnam, with a plan for 150,000 charging ports across all 63 provinces. However, with tens of thousands of EVs entering the market each year, the demand for charging stations keeps growing, meaning that charging station owners will have opportunities to capitalize on long-term revenue.

Experts believe that providing new business opportunities with sustainable income for partners, including filling station owners shifting to charging station models, will bring long-term benefits to multiple parties simultaneously.
