Within the framework of his working trip to the Kingdom of Denmark, Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Truong Thanh Hoai and a delegation from the Ministry of Industry and Trade held a working session with Vestas to discuss orientations for wind power development in Viet Nam, particularly offshore wind power, as well as opportunities for cooperation in technology, industry and supply chain development.
Representing the Vietnamese side at the working session were representatives of the Department of Foreign Market Development and Multilateral Trade, the Electricity Authority, the Industry Agency, the Viet Nam National Industry-Energy Group (PetroViet Nam - PVN), and the PetroViet Nam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC). Vestas was represented by Purvin Patel, President of Vestas Asia-Pacific; Antoine Croize, Country Manager of Vestas in Viet Nam; Nguyen Thanh Van, External Affairs Manager; and representatives of Vestas' technology, onshore and offshore wind operations, and supply chain divisions in Denmark.

Vestas currently has more than 207 GW of wind power capacity installed worldwide. In Viet Nam, approximately 1.6 GW of wind power capacity using Vestas equipment has been installed and put into operation across more than 35 projects. Vestas currently has more than 150 employees in Viet Nam, around 95% of whom are Vietnamese, working across various stages from project development, business and construction to installation, operation and maintenance. The group is also continuing to study and develop new project opportunities in Viet Nam and promote the development of the domestic supply chain, including cooperation with CS Wind Viet Nam in the manufacture of turbine towers and with Vietnamese enterprises in transportation, installation, operation and maintenance.

As part of the working programme, Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai and the delegation visited Vestas' research, development and wind turbine technology testing facility in Aarhus. The delegation was briefed on the research, design and testing of successive generations of wind turbines, as well as technological solutions aimed at improving capacity, efficiency, reliability and operational performance under different conditions. The Deputy Minister and the delegation also exchanged views with Vestas experts on trends in wind turbine technology development, technical requirements for offshore wind power, and the potential for strengthening cooperation in technology, industrial capacity development and supply chain development in Viet Nam.

At the working session, Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai stressed that Viet Nam identifies the development of renewable energy, including onshore, nearshore and offshore wind power, as one of the key orientations for ensuring energy security, meeting electricity demand for socio-economic development and promoting the energy transition. He said that wind power development is not only aimed at adding clean electricity to the national power system, but also offers opportunities to establish and develop a renewable energy industry, strengthen domestic equipment manufacturing capacity, and develop technical services, port infrastructure, logistics, operation and maintenance, thereby creating conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to participate more deeply in domestic and global energy supply chains.
Deputy Minister Truong Thanh Hoai called on Vestas to continue working closely with Vietnamese agencies and enterprises; share international experience in wind power development, particularly offshore wind power; study and implement projects in line with Viet Nam's plans and regulations; expand cooperation with domestic suppliers; support the enhancement of operation and maintenance service capacity; and promote industrial cooperation, technology transfer and human resource training while gradually increasing the localisation rate in the wind power sector. He also called on Vestas and its Vietnamese partners to maintain regular channels of communication and dialogue on wind power market development, industrial cooperation, technology and supply chains, thereby contributing to the effective implementation of Viet Nam's renewable energy development goals.
